Redondo Beach
On December 9, 1939 in Clairton, Pennsylvania, Joel Timothy (“Tim) Burens was welcomed by his parents, Christopher C. and Janet E. Burens and his older brother, John Dennis Burens. Shortly after, the family moved to California. Tim was an avid baseball fan and supported his two “home” teams, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Los Angeles Dodgers, throughout his life. Tim was a sober member of AA for close to 50 years; he often used his time to mentor others and had many close friends in the organization. Tim was a journey-level electrician for many years, finishing his career by working as an electrical inspector for the City of Los Angeles. Tim loved children, dogs, poker, a good meal, and baseball. Although he never married nor had children of his own, Tim was close to the many nieces and nephews he had and was known throughout his extended family as “Uncle Tim.” He lived a rich and full life until his death on July 4, 2025 from natural causes. He is survived by nieces Melyssa, Lisa, and Tiffany; and nephews John and Thomas, as well as many grand-nieces and –nephews, friends and colleagues, and his dog, Little Bit; by all of whom he will be sorely missed. Our world will be poorer due to the loss of this smart, funny, gentle and kind man.
