


Winters Open Mic and the Winters Theatre Company will present Songs In Solidarity, a benefit concert at the Winters Opera House to support the people of Los Angeles devastated by the January fires.
The concert will take place on Friday, April 4 with doors and bar opening at 6:30 p.m. and the music starts at 7. Headlining the show will be Yolo County’s own The Big Poppies— Rock ‘n Roll Powerhouse with Danceable Bops, Ballads and Psychedelic Jams. Two other local bands, Putah Creek Crawdads and Island Crew, will open the show.
Proceeds will go to the California Community Foundation (CCF), a Los Angeles-based nonprofit that provides critical aid to families, workers, and small businesses, including direct financial aid, legal support, mental health services, housing assistance, and small business stabilization.
Sponsors include Davis Live Music Collective, Davis Odd Fellows Lodge, Jesse Loren, Winters City Council Member, Lucas Frerichs, Yolo County Supervisor, Don Saylor, Yolo County Supervisor and Nashoba Wines.
Earlier this year, on Jan. 7, Los Angeles County was affected by two large wildfires known as the Palisades and Eaton wildfires. The fires were fueled by severe drought conditions, and strong Santa Ana winds, and continued for 24 days. According to ABC7, over 37,000 acres burned and more than 16,000 structures were destroyed. A UCLA Lewis Center for Regional Policy report also said that the wildfires killed at least 28 people.
The wildfires affected many families in the area, causing them to be displaced, the Los Angeles Times reported that more than 12,900 households were displaced by the fires. The fires were fully contained by Jan. 31, and the Los Angeles County is continuing to recover from the effects of the wildfires.
