An arrest warrant has been issued for a man who allegedly pushed an 80-year-old man discharged from Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox out of a moving vehicle, according to police.

New Lenox police said they are looking for 35-year-old Kyle Sears, who faces charges including aggravated vehicular hijacking, vehicular invasion and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Police said it happened at about 6 p.m. Wednesday as the 80-year-old man, leaving Silver Cross, was being helped into the passenger side seat of his minivan.

Police say Sears climbed into the driver’s seat and began to pull away, with the passenger partly in his seat before Sears pushed him out and he was hit by the van.

The van was later found in Joliet. Police said Sears’ last known address was in Shorewood but he’s believed to be homeless.

Police said the 80-year-old was being treated at Silver Cross for injuries to his lower body.

Officers were initially called shortly after 6 p.m. to Silver Cross, 1900 Silver Cross Blvd., for a report of a stolen vehicle.
