The Kane County state’s attorney’s office is operating fully in person again, according to a news release from the office last week, following the completion of air conditioning repairs at the Kane County Judicial Center.

The office shifted to remote work April 29, citing excessive indoor heat in its facilities at the judicial center in St. Charles. The office retained minimal in-person staff for essential operations.

The repairs were part of a $2 million air conditioning system renovation to replace failed chillers at the judicial center that maintained the building’s temperature, air flow and air quality, according to the release.

The project, which is being paid for by money in the county’s American Rescue Plan fund and Building Capital fund, began this past fall, Roger Fahnestock, the county’s executive director of information technologies and buildings management , previously said.

The closure was unplanned, a spokesperson for the office previously said, but the office is now fully up-and-running in person again, per the release. That means all walk-in services have resumed during normal business hours, the release said, and individuals seeking criminal protective orders, including orders of protection, stalking no contact orders and civil no contact orders no longer need to make an appointment.

The front desk is also open to the public again, officials said.
