Sophomore goalie Kallista Whitmore made four saves, including a crucial stop in the last minute, and Harbor High’s girls water polo team held on for a 10-9 nonleague win over visiting Pioneer of San Jose on Tuesday.

The Mustangs rallied and outscored the Pirates 5-1 in the fourth quarter in the teams’ thrilling finish.

Abigail Higgins had six goals, three assists, and two steals for the unbeaten Pirates (4-0). Serena Manildi had two goals, two assists, and one steal, and junior Kate Brandon had two goals, three assists, and one steal.

Higgins and Manildi, both senior captains, each drew two exclusions, and Brandon drew one.

Harbor plays at Pacific Grove on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Senior outside hitter Maren O’Farrell added 11 kills for the Pirates (2-5, 1-0). Sophomore middle blocker Cecile Novembre made seven kills and senior opposite Holly Rejfir had six kills.

Sophomore outside hitter Ella Dueck had 10 kills and 12 digs for the Mariners.

Harbor hosts Soquel on Thursday at 7 p.m. Aptos (1-5, 0-1) hosts Santa Cruz on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

At Soquel 3, San Lorenzo Valley 0 >> Lily Juarez-Sapone had 11 assists and four of the Knights’ 16 aces in the a 25-16, 25-14, 25-13 sweep of the Cougars in the teams’ SCCAL opener Tuesday.

Jillian Winterburn made five kills for the Knights, and Katy Eze and Liv Barton each had four kills. Gianna Audisio had 11 digs.

On Thursday at 7 p.m., SLV hosts Mount Madonna and Soquel plays at Harbor.

Scotts Valley 3, at The King’s Academy 1 >> Junior outside hitter Hayden Smith had 16 kills, nine digs, and three blocks in the Falcons’ 25-15, 25-22, 25-16, 25-16 nonleague win Tuesday.

Junior outside hitter Aila Papadopoulos had 13 kills, 11 digs, and four aces for the Falcons. Junior middle blocker Makayla McDonnell had seven kills and five digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Dylan Wing had 14 digs.

Stevenson 5, Aptos 2 >> The Mariners earned wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, but lost their nonleague match Tuesday.

Aptos’ Charlotte Long and Julia Blevins beat Claire Tight and Sloane Escher 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, and Sadi Chapman and Aracely Ritchie beat Maya Daffner and Belle Wang 7-6, 7-5.

Aptos’ Aviana Andrew came close to winning at No. 2 singles, but fell to Lynn Fu 4-6, 6-1, 10-5.

In other singles action, Kiana Safari lost to Stevenson’s Tereza Kostkova 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, Natalia Calderon lost 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3, and Gamble Kellermyer lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Aptos’ Neci Hoeptner and Gia Arista lost 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.
