Firearm arrest: On Sept. 29, Woodland Police officers responded to the 100 block of Oak Avenue at around 8:13 p.m. for the report of a fight where one involved party was overheard mentioning firearms. As officers arrived, a male tried to hide from officers. Officers ultimately located two semi-automatic handguns concealed on his person. The male, 18-year-old Woodland resident Estevan Ceja-Ayala was arrested and booked into the Yolo County Jail for several firearms-related offenses.
Attempted murder arrest: On Sept. 3 at around 8:30 a.m., officers responded to a disturbance at a motel located on the 100 block of West Main Street. The customer was refusing to leave. When officers arrived, they contacted and identified Jonathan Cervantes. Cervantes had a warrant for attempted murder from a case that occurred last year. Many officers responded and tried to contain Cervantes and gain voluntary compliance. Cervantes refused to surrender and a taser was deployed. The taser was ineffective, Cervantes decided to attack an officer, hitting them multiple times and dragging them to the ground.
Cervantes was taken to the ground by force and continued to fight until he was taken into custody. Cervantes sustained moderate injury to one of his arms. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. The officer who was attacked received only minor injuries to the face and head and his uniform was torn. Cervantes was booked into the Yolo County Jail for the attempted murder warrant, battery on a police officer, and resisting/delaying an officer.
