A safety alert from a license plate reader system resulted in an arrest in a stolen vehicle case, according to a post made by the Woodland Police Department.
Woodland Police Officers quickly responded to an alert involving a stolen 2003 GMC truck that had just entered city limits.
Officers located the vehicle within minutes in the County Fair Mall parking lot. Based on information from the stolen vehicle alert, there was suspect information. Not far from the GMC, officers located and detained a suspect from the alert — 36-year-old James Morton of Woodland.
Morton initially gave officers a false name and claimed to be someone else. Once his real identity was confirmed, a records check revealed he had a felony warrant from an outside agency. A search of Morton’s property uncovered the keys to the stolen GMC and drug paraphernalia.
Morton was arrested and booked at the Yolo County Jail for:
Possession of a stolen vehicle
False personation of another
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Outstanding warrant
