


Senior Kaleb Wing struck out nine batters over 4 and 2/3 scoreless innings, and Scotts Valley High’s baseball team earned a 2-1 walk-off win over visiting Santa Teresa in nonleague action Tuesday.
“Great team win,” said Kevin Taylor, the Falcons’ first-year head coach. “The team has solid chemistry and they are coming together at the right time. Obviously, great to get a win heading into league play.”
Wing, who is committed to Loyola Marymount University, didn’t allow a hit or walk.
“I’m just really proud of Kaleb, he put in so much work in the off season and it’s paying off,” Taylor said. “His fastball and off-speed command was on point and he was keeping hitters off balance all game.”
Sophomore Nick Acton and junior Garrett Brown also pitched for the Falcons and each allowed one hit.
Acton earned the win. He also scored the winning run. He singled in the bottom of the seventh, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on Owen Martin’s base hit.Sophomore Bryce McDonnell had two of the Falcons’ eight hits and scored a run.
The Falcons (3-4) open Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play at Aptos (1-2) on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
At Harbor 10, North Salinas 0; 6 inn. >> The Pirates threw a staff no-hitter in their nonleague shutout Tuesday.
Winning pitcher Cole McCombs struck out seven batter and walked three over four innings. Aiden Boles gave up a walk over two innings.
On offense, McCombs had two hits and two RBI, and Naiche Fish and Robert Andrade each had a hits and two RBI.
Harbor (8-1) opens SCCAL play at Santa Cruz (1-2) on Friday at 4 p.m.
Soquel 24, at Alvarez 2; 6 inn. >> Hudson Summerrill doubled, tripled, drove in three runs and scored for time in the Knights’ nonleague rout Tuesday.
Noah Piona had a hit, four RBI, and scored twice. Jake Escalante had two hits, two RBI, and scored four runs. Cash Moran had two hits, two RBI, and scored twice. Trey Sousa had two hits, two RBI, and scored a run. Luke Shoemaker had a hit, two RBI, and scored a run. Brady Downs had two hits and scored twice, and Sam Whelan scored twice.
Shoemaker gave up two hits, one walk, and two runs over three innings and earned the win. He struck out seven batters.
Soquel (8-0) opens SCCAL play at San Lorenzo Valley (1-3) in Felton on Friday at 4 p.m.
At St. Francis 11, Soledad 7 >> Senior Javier Fonseca, who is committed to Menlo College, had three hits, four RBI, and scored three runs in the Sharks’ win Tuesday.
Sophomore Nicholas Fantl had two hits, including a triple, three RBI, and a run scored for the Sharks. Freshman Jeremiah Mendez had two hits and two RBI, and Pepperdine-committed Nash Horton had two hits, including a double, two stolen bases, and scored twice. Senior Rudy Valdez scored Watsonville’s lone run in the sixth inning.
Freshman Brody Barto gave up four runs over three innings and took the loss.

Cabrillo 14, at Gavilan 4 >> Carlos Cruz hit a three-run home run in the Seahawks’ seven-run ninth inning to seal their Coast Conference South Division win Tuesday. He also drew a walk and scored twice.
Cabrillo (10-13, 3-1) has scored 10 or more runs in seven of its 10 wins. It has a .295 team batting average the season.
Diego Grabiel had three hits, two RBI, and scored three runs for the Seahawks. Kaiden Hoapili had three hits, two RBI, and scored a run. Jayson Schmeisser had two hits and scored twice.
Winning pitcher Oscar Knapp struck out eight batters over 6 1/3 innings. He gave up seven hits, two walks, and four runs.

At Alvarez 3, Scotts Valley 2 >> Senior Taylor Wilson hit a solo home run in the Falcons’ narrow nonleague loss Tuesday.
Senior Jazzy Doubek had two of the Falcons’ five hits and stole a base. Senior Gracie Delgado had a hit and one RBI, and freshman Jillian Oing scored a run,
Sophomore Chloe Kent struck out five batters in her complete-game loss.

Alisal 17, at MVC 7; 6 inn. >> Kayla Fullalove-Silveira doubled and homered in the Mustangs’ loss Tuesday. She finished with three this, three RBI, and scored twice.
Gianna Johnson had two hits and scored twice for MVC. Samantha Bertoldi had one hit and scored twice.

Scotts Valley 7, at Harbor 0 >> Senior Elijah Diamond defeated Abraham Bachar 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and the Falcons earned a sweep in their SCCAL opener Tuesday.
The short-handed Pirates defaulted all three doubles matches.
Juniors Aditya Hannon, Garvasis Kuriakose and Jacob Bodeman also earned singles wins in straight sets for the Falcons (1-2, 1-0), who play at Aptos on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Aptos 6, at SLV 1 >> Dane Victory and Nico Salinas earned singles wins and the Mariners won their SCCAL opener Tuesday.
Asher Schwarzback and August Hughes won for the Cougars at No. 1 doubles, and the Mariners’ Isaiah Ackerman and Luve Granstrom won at No. 2 doubles.
SLV defaulted at No. 3 and 4 singles and No. 3 doubles.
At Soquel 5, Santa Cruz 2 >> Hudson Ward, Benja Bellito, and Cian Francis won singles matches, and the Knights opened SCCAL play with a win Tuesday.
The No. 1 doubles team of Torin Miller and Nate Marcus and No. 3 team of Leo Hagedorn and Liam Stiller helped secure the Knights’ victory.

At Aptos 208, Harbor 252 >> Medalist Sophomore Nick Bjorn shot 3-over-par 38 for medalist honors on the front nine at Seascape Golf Club on Tuesday.
Ben Nowark (40), Colby Culbertson (41), Leland Blankenship (42) and Will Byers (47) also scored for the Mariners (1-1).
Kaden Dunton (39), Kyler Samples (47), Gunther Krueger (49), Jake Locknane (58), and Niko Marinovik (59) scored for the Pirates.

Sam Wickens (41) also shined for the Cardinals (2-0). Peter Robberloth (43) led the Knights (1-1).

Soquel 3, at Scotts Valley 0 >> The Knights earned a tightly contested, 25-20, 25-20, 25-23 sweep in SCCAL play Tuesday.
Junior outside Ben Luckey, had three kills and made five passes for the Falcons. Junior outside Jake Locatelli had four kills and an ace.
College softball
Monterey Peninsula 12, at Cabrillo 2 >> Brooklyn Llamas had two hits and one RBI, and teammate Bella Fromel had two hits and a run scored in the Seahawks’ Coast Conference loss Tuesday.
Charileen Pauneto had a hit, stolen base, and run scored for Cabrillo.
