Alameda flag football player Elsa Chin is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week, and Santa Clara cross country runner Dominic McMahon is the boys athlete of the week for Sept. 30-Oct. 5.

In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Chin finished with 38.87% of the votes. Monte Vista water polo player Lauren Lynam placed second with 31.56%.

In the boys poll, McMahon had 34.88% to finish ahead of Newark Memorial cross country runner Michael Tellez, who was second at 30.67%.

Chin, a senior, filled up the stat sheet for the Hornets over the past week. She scored two rushing touchdowns and had two interceptions in a win over Arroyo, and added three interceptions and two touchdowns in a win over Castro Valley.

McMahon, also a senior, took first place in the large school division at the Artichoke Invitational, finishing the 2.3-mile race in 12:07.
