



Broomfield’s Ireland Heer and Kiley Wheaton headlined the local softball talent on CHSAA’s all-state teams after a dominant run to the Class 5A state semifinals this year.
The Eagles’ junior ace, Heer, boasted a 1.42 ERA and 117 strikeouts while their junior infielder, Wheaton, was a master in the batter’s box with a .607 average, 37 RBIs, 51 hits, 51 runs and seven home runs.
Fairview sophomore catcher Brooklyn Dangott and junior shortstop Julia Savage, Erie seniors Lyric Delozier and Lizzie Owens, and Broomfield juniors Avery Gines, Lauren Martinez and Lilly Smith all had their names etched into the 5A honorable mentions.
Two of the best pitchers in Broomfield and Boulder counties, meanwhile, led the effort on 4A’s first team thanks to Holy Family senior Isabella Arroyo (1.72 ERA, 179 strikeouts) and Niwot senior Kianna Butler (1.57 ERA, 222 strikeouts).
Holy Family’s senior catcher, Makaila Moosbrugger, earned her spot on second team after batting .500 with 24 RBIs and 28 hits. Mead junior Halie Gippe and senior Nikki Ward, Niwot sophomore infielder May Herrera, Centaurus freshman Kaitlyn Long, Holy Family senior outfielder Mari Nanez and Frederick senior pitcher Payton Torres all followed her lead on honorable mention.
Lyons led the 3A initiative thanks to a second-team selection for sophomore pitcher Gretta Wynja, who dominated on the mound with a 2.21 ERA and 230 strikeouts. Her fellow sophomores, shortstop Leora Hagan and catcher Ava Vasquez, joined her via honorable mention along with Peak to Peak’s senior utility player/pitcher Sydney Cusack, junior pitcher/infielder Karina Lefort, and senior utility players Maggie Wallis and Dagny West.
Jefferson Academy, for its part, enjoyed honorable mention selections for senior catcher/shortstop Madeline Scoggins and sophomore third baseman Ellie Arnold.
