Resident of San Jose

Richard Jude Forst, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in San Jose, California on May 21, 2025, surrounded by his family. Richard was born on December 14, 1937 in North Platte, Nebraska, and made his way to the Bay Area in 1939, where he would live for the rest of his life.

Richard founded Forst Laboratory in San Jose 1965, which is currently owned by his son. Alover of the outdoors, Richard was an avid runner and sailor. He turned his hobbies into commitments to the community, from coaching the Santa Clara University Women’s Cross-Country Team to serving as an elected member of the inaugural Open Space Authority’s Board of Directors to his role as aCommodore of the South Beach Yacht Club in San Francisco. In his free time, Richard enjoyed sailing his treasured boat Udjat all around San Francisco Bay. He also found time to participate in the construction of the Yacht Club’s new clubhouse, as well as attend various events held in the new (and old) clubhouse.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife Patricia of 66 years, sons Mike (Diane), Rich, Eric (Tracy), five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of friends whose lives he brightened with his commitment and involvement in the community. Richard’s presence was enjoyed by all, often buoyed with a glass of scotch.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Richard asked that we take care of each other.

Amemorial service for Richard will be held on June 7, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. at St. Christopher Church in San Jose.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Red Cross in Richard's honor. Information can be found at www.redcross.org.
