SAN JOSE >> A man was shot and killed last week in San Jose, according to authorities.

Officers were called to a residence just before 4 a.m. for a report of a person shot, San Jose police Sgt. Jorge Garibay said in a news release. They arrived on Sunset Court, near Alum Rock Avenue and Interstate 680, to find the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, Garibay said.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity once it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.

The suspect left the scene before officers arrived, Garibay said. No arrests were announced Tuesday. The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

Garibay said the case is being investigated as San Jose’s sixth homicide of the year. It was barely two days after the fifth, a shooting March 29 south of downtown.
