Lakeland’s boys and girls captured regional titles once again with Friday’s Division 1 regional meet at Royal Oak and Quickstad Park, a rerun of the Lakers’ sweep last year at Kensington Metropark.
Also in the girls race, Novi finished runner-up behind individual winner Katelynn Egli (18:53.70) and also had 13th and 14th-place finishes from Claire Galas (2:04.40) and Mya Tass (20:10.80), respectively).
Royal Oak and Milford also qualified for state by sharing third-place honors in the girls race. The Ravens got top finishes from Jane Meinecke (10th, 19:58.00) and Anna Macdonald (12th, 20:02.90), while Milford was paced by fourth and fifth-place finishes from Jillian Broyles (19:22.50) and Lauren Bradley (19:25.70),
Lakeland’s top runner in the girls race was Ava Alicandro, who took second (19:10.80), followed by Morgan Scally (11th, 19:59.90) and Alana Tiernan (15th, 20:11.30), Genevieve Connolly (16th, 20:17.40), Sam Horton (17th, 20:19.70).
Seaholm (142 points) took fifth place in the girls race, followed by Walled Lake Northern (143), South Lyon East (171), Walled Lake Central (194), Berkley (220), South Lyon (259), North Farmington (271), Groves (274), West Bloomfield (374) and Walled Lake Western (393).
In the boys race, Milford junior Kyle O’Rourke was the individual winner (15:45.70), while Mavericks Bastien Beaubien (6th, 16:28.40) and Todd Tobin (13th, 16:43.30) were among the top-20 finishers that helped Milford take second.
The Lakers littered the top 10 in the boys race thanks to strong runs by Gavin Johns (4th, 16:26.90), Ayden McDonald (5th, 16:27.60), Matthew Verellen (7th, 16:31.50) and Jacob Kosidlo (8th, 16:32.30).
Detroit Catholic Central was led by Drew Abbott, who finished second individually to also help CC take third. Gavin Tisch gave the Shamrocks another top-15 placer (14th, 16:45.50).
Novi came fourth place in the boys race (96 points), proceeded by Walled Lake Northern (155), Royal Oak (178), South Lyon East (236), Groves (262), West Bloomfield (281), South Lyon (309), Seaholm (334), Brother Rice (337), Berkley (362), North Farmington (391), Walled Lake Western (401) and Walled Lake Central (450).
Oakland County’s girls individual qualifiers included: North Farmington’s Cora Liu (3rd, 19:15.10), Walled Lake Northern’s Emily Alt (6th, 19:34.00), South Lyon East’s Claire Porinsky (7th, 19:35.50), Walled Lake Northern’s Allie Gallagher (8th, 19:42.30), South Lyon’s Kayla Ward (9th, 19:53.90), Seaholm’s Molly Grubb (18th, 20:20.20) and Walled Lake Central’s Paige Haller (20th, 20:25.40).
Oakland County’s boys individual qualifiers included: West Bloomfield’s Musa Kay (3rd, 16:24.60), Novi’s Trevor Baptist (9th, 16:32.60), Novi’s Soma Sato (11th, 16:39.80), Walled Lake Northern’s Finn Gammerath (12th, 16:40.80), Royal Oak’s Nolan Till (17th, 16:50.00), Novi’s Briggs Warren (22nd, 17:01.60) and South Lyon East’s Nikhil Ball (24th, 17:07.20).
Division 1 regional at Holly
The Holly Bronchos finished fifth in the boys race (171 points) and eighth in the girls race (233), both of which were won by Brighton at Springfield Oaks County Park.
Oakland County’s boys individual qualifiers included: Holly’s Broden Ladd (13th, 16:33.58).
Division 1 regional at Clarkston
The Rochester Falcons dominated to win Friday’s regional at Clintonwood Park behind 1-2 finishes from senior Lucy Cook (17:21.60) and junior Ella Abraham (17:47.70).
Taylor Parsons (7th, 18:44.00), Charlotte Jones (11th, 18:56.70), Stephanie Bulat (15th, 19:03.00) and Mia Snellgrove (19th, 19:50.70) gave the Falcons a handful of top-20 finishers in the race.Rochester Adams, runner-up in the girls race, also had a handful of runners in the top 20, including sophomore El McMahan (5th, 18:27.00), senior Kaitlyn Kauppila (12th, 18:57.00) and freshman Ava Thomas (13th, 18:59.20).
Clarkston was led by sophomore Avery DeGrendel (9th, 18:54.00) and took third in the girls race to qualify for state.
Clarkston won the boys race with five top-20 finishers, including Blake Peardon (6th, 15:53.10), Jaxon Nowik (7th, 15:55.30), David Bubeck (14th, 16:01.30) and Ryan Barnes (15th, 16:01.70).
Lake Orion came runner-up and had three runners in the top dozen with Blake Peardon (6th, 15:53.10), Max Houvener (8th, 15:53.30) and Raymond Lucero (12th, 16:00.20). James Cusick won the boys race (15:23.30) to help Oxford finish third and qualify for state.
In the boys race, Troy took fourth place (104 points), followed by Rochester (109), Troy Athens (183), Rochester Adams (228) and Bloomfield Hills (231). Stoney Creek came in 11th (255) and Waterford Mott ended 13th (393).
Oxford came fourth place in the girls race (135), followed by Troy (135), Lake Orion (136), Bloomfield Hills (154), Stoney Creek (156) and Troy Athens (254). Also, Waterford Kettering took 13th with 389 points.
Oakland County’s boys individual qualifiers included: Bloomfield Hills’ Taye Levenson (2nd, 15:26.60), Troy’s Kian Schneeweis (3rd, 15:29.50), Troy Athens Nate Linden (4th, 15:38.20), Rochester’s Evan Owczarek (9th, 15:58.20), Rochester’s Collin McLaughlin (11th, 15:58.90), Rochester’s Dylan Pascoe (13th, 16:01.10), Troy Athens’ Myles Linden (17th, 16:16.80).
Oakland County’s girls individual qualifiers included: Stoney Creek’s Leah Corby (3rd, 17:52.00), Oxford’s Mallory Bigelow (4th, 18:00.70), Oxford’s Taylor Brodeur (6th, 18:43.60), Troy’s Audrey Hamilton (8th, 18:45.20), Bloomfield Hills’ Olivia Jenney (10th, 18:54.00), Troy’s Madie Miller (14th, 19:02.10).
Division 1 regional at Ann Arbor Huron
Farmington finished third place in the team standings to qualify for state Saturday at Willow Metropark.
Farmington finished eighth in the boys race and Farmington Hills Mercy took eighth in the girls race.
Catherine Steele led the Farmington runners in eighth place (19:24.90), and other teammates in the top 20 included Molly Baracco (15th, 19:56.60) and Kierra Magner (19:59.20).
Oakland County’s girls individual qualifiers included: Farmington Hills Mercy’s Nora Gerzema (19:50.00).
No Oakland County boys were individual qualifiers from this region.
Division 2 regional at Holly
Detroit Country Day took third in the boys race, while Pontiac Notre Dame Prep finished second in the girls race to each qualify for state Saturday at Springfield Oaks County Park.
Behind the Irish (80 points) Country Day finished fifth in the girls race (132), Marian came seventh (159), followed by Cranbrook-Kingswood in eighth (166) and Orchard Lake St. Mary’s in ninth (193).
Aside from the Yellowjackets (77 points), St. Mary’s came fifth in the boys race (141), trailed by ND Prep (145) and Cranbrook-Kingswood (200) in sixth and seventh, respectively.
Omar Elbashir (4th, 16:46.77), Jacob Hopkins (6th, 16:55.89) and Ethan Bray (10th, 17:24.68) led the way for DCD in the boys race.
Maria Nunning (7th, 20:00.70) led three Fighting Irish runners in the top 20 of the girls race.
Oakland County’s boys individual qualifiers included: ND Prep’s Isaak Brook (5th, 16:52.62), St. Mary’s Cole Wisniewski (7th, 17:05.21), St. Mary’s Jake Yono (16th, 17:37.21), Cranbrook-Kingswood’s Ethan VandenHaute (18th, 17:41.44) and St. Mary’s Bella Matyus (20th, 17:49.83).
Oakland County’s girls individual qualifiers included: St. Mary’s Mea D’Agostino (3rd, 18:53.10), Country Day’s Nell Stover (6th, 19:53.82), Country Day’s Claire Heller (15th, 20:45.15), Cranbrook-Kingswood’s Diya Goyal (17th, 20:46.69).
Division 2 regional at Algonac
Madison Heights Lamphere took fourth in the boys race and ninth in the girls race Saturday at Columbus County Park.
Oakland County’s girls individual qualifiers included: Lamphere’s Hannah Haines (6th, 20:01.70).
Oakland County’s boys individual qualifiers included: Lamphere’s Georgia Aramouni (7th, 7:12.80) and Lamphere’s Pete Lutz (20th, 18:01.80).
Division 2 regional at Shepherd
Ortonville Brandon’s took 12th place in the boys race and ninth in the girls race on Friday.
There were no Oakland County individual qualifiers in the races.
Division 3 regional at Algonac
Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest freshman Nole Lorenzen won the boys race Saturday at Columbus County Park with a time of 16:13.80.
The Crusaders finished fourth in the boys race (116 points), Clawson took seventh (212) and Bishop Foley ended eighth (255). In the girls race, Lutheran NW came in fifth (152 points), Bishop Foley came eighth (199) and Wixom St. Catherine finished 10th (231).
Oakland County’s boys individual qualifiers included: Clawson’s Owen Windgaston (15th, 17:18.10) and Lutheran Northwest’s Jack Songer (20th, 17:26.80)
Oakland County’s girls individual qualifiers included: St. Catherine’s Reagan Lees (10th, 20:38.2).
Division 4 at Royal Oak
Royal Oak Shrine won the boys race and Auburn Hills Oakland Christian captured first in the girls race Saturday in Royal Oak.
Shrine junior Abenezer Cerone won the boys race by nearly a minute with a mark of 16:06.90. The Knights (56 points) took 11th-13th behind Michael Bowker (18:09.70), Joseph Kemp (18:17.30) and Andrew Lopez (18:17.50).
Oakland Christian also qualified from the boys race by coming runner-up with 91 points, led by Vern Clyne (5th, 17:35.90) and Uzziel Thomassen (14th, 18:17.90). Southfield Christian finished eighth with 186 points.
Oakland Christian (35 points) was followed in the girls race by Shrine in second with 57 points. Southfield Christian ended in sixth with 146 points.
Lancers senior Eliza Keith won the girls race with a time of 19:11.70, and was followed closely behind by teammates Raley Keith (3rd, 19:55.90) and Lydia Gleason (4th, 20:02.50), while Bridget Miller came in 12th as well from Oakland Christian (22:01.60).
Shrine had six runners in the top 20, led by the trio of Rose Losey (9th, 21:46.30), Louisa Denks (10th, 21:54.10) and Nora Tillman (11th, 21:54.50).
Oakland County’s girls individual qualifiers included: Birmingham Roeper’s Natalie Gibbs (2nd, 19:53.80).
No Oakland County boys were individual qualifiers from this region.
Division 4 at Webberville
Clarkston Everest Collegiate took third place (76 points) in the girls race to punch its ticket to state at Webberville’s XC Complex Friday.
Additionally, Novi Christian Academy took fifth in the girls race with 129 points.
Finishing in the top 20 from the Mountaineers’ girls were Erica Walker (8th, 21:05.84), Allison Schmitt (11th, 21:41.27) and Isabella Page (20th, 22:46.32).
Novi Christian Academy took fourth in the boys race with 149 points and Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes came in seventh (156).
Oakland County’s girls individual qualifiers included: Novi Christian Academy’s Madison Markowicz (6th, 20:55.04) and Adriana Fandino (18th, 22:28.63).
Oakland County’s boys individual qualifiers included: Novi Christian Academy’s Reuben Jiran (8th, 17:50.60) and Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes’ Karl Wegner (10th, 17:58.96).
