The Colorado women’s soccer team made sure the season’s first setback didn’t turn into a losing streak.

The Buffaloes didn’t take long to dent the scoreboard, using early goals by Vivi Zacarias and Jace Holley to post a 2-0 win at the University of Denver on Thursday night.

It was the final nonconference game for the Buffs, who posted their 14th consecutive victory against the Pioneers. It also was CU’s seventh consecutive road win at DU.

Coming off their first loss of the season Sunday at Wisconsin, the Buffs jumped out quickly at DU, with Zacarias scoring in the fourth minute. It was the first career goal for Zacarias, a freshman midfielder from Lynwood, Calif.

Holley continued her hot start, posting her eighth goal of the season in the eighth minute off an assist from Emerson Layne.

After jumping to an early two-goal advantage, CU’s packed-in defense did the rest. The Buffs outshot DU 20-3 overall and allowed just one shot on goal. Goalie Jordan Nytes needed to make just the lone save to record her second shutout of the season and the 21st of her CU career, moving to within two of Annie Brunner for third among CU’s all-time leaders.

It also was Nytes’ 31st win with the Buffs, moving her into a tie for fourth all-time with Kristin Radlinski.

CU (6-1-1) will enjoy a full week between games before hosting Kansas State in the Big 12 Conference opener Sept. 18 at Prentup Field (7 p.m., ESPN+).
