Union Station is adding a new law firm to its office docket.

Jackson Lewis, a labor and employment law firm, told BusinessDen it’s moving to new digs on the ninth floor of 1400 Wewatta St. in a 17,400-square-foot office.

The practice has around 20 attorneys in town. It expects to move out of its current 19,700-square-foot office at 950 17th St. — where LoDo fades into Upper Downtown — by late spring or early summer.

“We felt that a slightly smaller, more efficient space would be a better fit for where we’re at now,” said Ryan Lessmann, office managing principal for the firm’s Denver branch, in an email.

Lessmann said the real estate search didn’t venture too far out from its existing spot; LoDo’s connection to public transportation was a “big draw” for him.

“We primarily focused on downtown, particularly around 17th Street and near Union Station,” he said.

The construction of the new office space will cost $336,860, per public records.

JacksonLewis, founded in 1958 and headquartered in New York City, has roughly 1,000 lawyers across the country. It raked in $624 million in gross revenue in 2023, making it the 80th largest firm in the nation.

The practice isn’t the only one to make the move to a smaller office within downtown.

Philadelphia-based Ballard Spahr announced last month that it would move to 1800 Larimer St. from 1225 17th St. Its new office is about a third smaller than its previous spot.

Other recent local law firm office lease deals include Garnett Powell Maximon Barlow & Farbes (1125 17th St.), Frost Brown Todd (1801 California St.) and Fennemore’s lease of the former Moye White space in RiNo.

Five law firms have taken space in downtown’s Block 162 tower, which was completed in 2021. Gibson Dunn is moving to 1900 Lawrence, downtown’s newest skyscraper.

And Davis Graham & Stubbs has moved to Paradigm in RiNo.
