Notes: Colorado is appearing in its second consecutive NCAA Tournament and the fourth in the past six seasons. The Buffs have reached the tournament eight times in 13 seasons under head coach Danny Sanchez but have advanced past the second round in just one of those appearances, reaching the Sweet 16. After five straight first-round wins, CU has been eliminated in the opening round in their past two tourney appearances, including last year at Texas A&M. … The Buffs haven’t scored a goal in their past three NCAA Tournament games. … Georgia (8-6-6, 3-3-4 SEC) is coming off a 1-0 loss against Arkansas in the SEC tournament quarterfinals. … The teams have met just twice, playing a home-and-home series in 2003-04. The Buffs won in overtime at home in 2003, and the teams played to a scoreless draw at Georgia the following year. … CU enters the tournament at No. 55 in the RPI. Notes: CU (11-14, 4-9 Big 12) is a solid 4-5 on the road but has lost its past three road matches. … Iowa State (9-13, 3-8) has lost its past five matches and has lost three of its past four home matches. … CU has faced the Cyclones just once since the Buffs’ previous stint in the Big 12, winning a four-set decision in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament. The Buffs ended their previous stint in the Big 12 with losses in nine of the last 10 matchups with Iowa State. Before that run by the Cyclones, the Buffs dominated the series, with CU holding a 40-28 lead overall. … CU middle blocker Cayla Payne ranks sixth in the Big 12 with 1.13 blocks per set. Senior setter Taylor Simpson ranks eighth with 9.22 assists per set. … As a team, CU still ranks last in the Big 12 in kills per set (11.77), points per set (15.2), assists per set (10.71), opponent kills per set (13.35) and opponent hitting percentage (.257). … The Buffs return home for three consecutive home games — the final home games of the season — beginning Nov. 21 against Arizona.

The CU cross country teams will compete at the NCAA Mountain Regional on Friday in Reno, Nevada. … The fall season stroke average of 73.70 for the CU women’s golf team was the second-best mark in program history, trailing only the 73.60 mark the Buffs posted last year. True freshman Sydney Givens led the Buffs with a 72.40 stroke average. … The CU women’s golf team climbed 19 spots in the NCAA rankings over the fall, rising from No. 73 to No. 54. … Late in the fall season, CU men’s golfer Justin Biwer set a program record with 61 consecutive holes without a bogey, crushing the former record of 42.
