99 years Saratoga, CA Raised in apoor family with five sisters and one brother during the Great Depression in Lake Orion Michigan, Pauline learned early that love was far more important than financial assets.
During a life a few months shy of a century, Pauline’s north star was her family; her loving husband Len, her three sons, and her four grandchildren. She would tell people she met that her life’s three greatest accomplishments were her three sons, and somewhat humorously demonstrated her belief by putting them on her resume.
Thanksgiving and Christmas were her two favorite days of the year, not because ofthe food or the gifts, but because she was surrounded by those she loved the most.
With her husband and sometimes her children, Pauline visited and lived in many places, from Europe to the Far East. Most recently she lived in Boulder, CO, and Saratoga, CA. While she often swam and cross-country skied, her favorite exercise was strolling the streets in numerous cities around the world. To her, life’s greatest values were to be experienced, not purchased.
While she liked to cook, she saw itasameans to the end of sitting around the dinner table in conversation with friends and family. Every evening with her immediate family included a required family dinner –with candles. Pauline loved the beach and the mountains, each offering what she felt was a closeness to her God and a wide horizon to contemplate life.
Pauline will be dearly missed by her sons Tom, Mark, and Paul; her grandchildren, David, Brittany, Andrew, and Corrie; her great grandchildren Henry, Maddie, Wells, Mabel; and everyone who knew her. But all will be assuaged by the fact she is now reunited with her life’s great love, her husband Len.
Pauline’s ashes will be interred in Len’s grave with a brief service at St. Paul’s cemetery in Strasburg, IL on June 14th at 10:30 AM.
