What’s at stake?

One of the most important Indiana-Ohio State games will have playoff ranking implications. Ohio State already has one loss and with another could be pushed way down — if not outside of — the 12-team College Football Playoff. The Hoosiers are facing a ranked team for the first time this season. Beating the Buckeyes at home would show they deserve a place among college football’s top teams. Ohio State buried Northwestern at Wrigley Field last week.

Key matchup

Indiana QB Kurtis Rourke vs. Ohio State defense. The 24-year-old Rourke is as poised and unflappable as any FBS quarterback in the country. And even though he knows what to expect Saturday — he spent five seasons playing less than two hours away from Columbus at Ohio University — this will be his biggest test yet. Ohio State’s defense has a way of making any quarterback uncomfortable and that’s not likely to change this weekend.

No. 9 Ole Miss (8-2, 4-2 SEC, No. 9 CFP) at Florida (5-5, 3-4), 11 a.m. today (ABC) Line: Mississippi by 10

What’s at stake?

Mississippi’s spot in the College Football Playoff. The Rebels have won three in a row, including a dominant victory against Georgia two weeks ago, but can’t afford a slip-up in the Swamp. The Gators are trying to win their fourth straight at home and become bowl eligible on senior day.

Key matchup

Florida LT Austin Barber versus former teammate and current Ole Miss DE Princely Umanmielen. Umanmielen left the Gators after last season and landed in Oxford, where he ranks second on the team and third in the league with 9 ½ sacks. The Rebels are coming off a five-sack performance against Georgia.

What’s at stake?

It’s a game with Big 12 and College Football Playoff implications that few saw coming at the beginning of the season. The Cougars were picked 13th in the 16-team league in preseason polls while the Sun Devils were dead last. A win for either team keeps their CFP hopes alive while the loser is almost certainly out of the picture.

Key matchup

Arizona State QB Sam Leavitt vs. BYU’s pass defense. Leavitt’s coming off a stellar performance in a win over Kansas State, throwing for 275 yards and three touchdowns. He’ll get another test against BYU’s strong pass defense, which is giving up just 176 yards per game, ranking second in the Big 12 and 16th nationally.

No. 18 Army (9-0) vs. No. 6 Notre Dame (9-1), 6 p.m. today at Yankee Stadium (NBC) Line: Notre Dame by 14 1/2

What’s at stake?

Notre Dame has won eight straight and is trying to chase down a berth in the College Football Playoff. Army has won 13 straight, the longest current streak in the nation, and is one of three remaining unbeaten teams in the FBS. The Black Knights have already clinched a spot in the American Athletic Conference championship game on Dec. 6 against No. 20 Tulane and the playoff rankings could come into play as a tiebreaker to determine who hosts the game. Army is trying to knock off a team ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll for the first time since beating No. 9 Penn State in 1963. The Black Knights haven’t defeated the Irish since 1958, the last time both teams were ranked entering their matchup.

Key matchup

Army has lost just two fumbles this season and leads the nation in turnovers lost. Notre Dame tops the nation with 25 turnovers gained and is fifth in fumbles recovered. The Irish recovered five fumbles and had an interception on Oct. 26 in a rout of Navy, which like the Black Knights relies on controlling the ball and had played largely mistake-free football while going undefeated into that matchup.

What’s at stake?

Alabama and Oklahoma will meet for the first time as conference opponents. Alabama needs a win to strengthen its case for a spot in the College Football Playoff. A third loss could be too much to overcome. Even with the depth of the SEC, it’s hard to say how much schedule strength will matter to the selection committee. Oklahoma is trying to become bowl eligible for the 26th consecutive year, which would extend the second-longest streak in the nation. A win here would help take pressure off Oklahoma coach Brent Venables, who already has fired his offensive coordinator this season.

Key matchup

Oklahoma defense vs. Alabama QB Jalen Milroe as a runner. Oklahoma, stout defensively all season, ranks 18th nationally in yards rushing allowed per game. Milroe leads the team with 608 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground.
