LIVERMORE — With the assistance of license plate reader cameras, a person was arrested in a non-injury shooting Wednesday morning on Interstate 580 in the Altamont Pass area, the California Highway Patrol said.

No other information about the suspect was immediately released. No charges were announced.

The shooting happened about 9:02 a.m. Wednesday on eastbound I-580 between Flynn Road and Grant Line Road, the CHP said.

The CHP said the driver of a red GMC Yukon SUV fired at least five shots at a person driving a Tesla Model 3.

Neither the Tesla driver nor the vehicle was hit by the gunfire. The CHP has not said what prompted the altercation.

The CHP said a description of the suspect vehicle was shared with other law enforcement agencies and the CHP began accessing license plate reader cameras in an attempt to locate the vehicle.

Through the use of the license plate reader cameras, the Yukon was located later in the day by San Leandro police in the 2300 block of Williams Street in San Leandro. The driver was arrested and a semi-automatic pistol was found inside the vehicle, the CHP said.
