After leading in the early returns, it looks as if Measure CC, which would ban all fireworks in Seaside, is heading for defeat.
Friday’s report from the Monterey County Election Department shows almost 54 percent of the over 9,000 votes counted voting against the measure. The measure had almost 51 percent of the votes counted by the day after the Nov. 5 election.
Seaside currently permits the sales, possession, use and discharge of “safe and sane” fireworks between June 28 and July 5, between noon and 10 p.m. The city issues licenses to eligible nonprofit organizations for sale of safe and sane fireworks pursuant to a specified application process. It is one of the few cities in the county to do so.
In another close race, Jean Raasch continues to hold a small lead over Eric Palmer for the District 3 seat on the Monterey City Council. Rasch has an 11-vote lead with 2,323 votes counted according to Election Department.
The latest count on the Pacific Grove City Council race shows Paul Walkingstick, Chaps Poduri and Tina Rau looking to fill the three open seats, while incumbent Luke Coletti is in fourth place by 91 votes.
The deadline for counties to receive vote-by-mail ballots postmarked by Election Day was Tuesday. Results are expected to be certified by Dec. 5.
