Max Aceves made five 3-pointers and scored 24 points to lead Watsonville High boys basketball team past Monte Vista Christian 81-55 in the teams’ Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division game on Friday.
Watsonville finished with 14 3-pointers. Leon Madec made four 3s and scored 16 points for the Wildcatz (13-3 overall, 9-1 league), who led 51-22 at the half.
Anthony Razzo scored 14 points for the Wildcatz and George Madec chipped in with eight points.
Senior guard Nico Downie, who is committed to play football at Valparaiso University, scored 12 points to lead the Mustangs (8-11, 2-8). Matteo Vidal and Braden Dobler each scored 10 points.
On Tuesday at 7 p.m., Watsonville hosts Marina (7-13, 2-7), and MVC plays at North Monterey County (13-6, 8-1).
At Aptos 70, San Lorenzo Valley 31 >> Senior forward Isaiah Ackerman with 15 points, and the SCCAL leading Mariners won Friday.
Senior guard Nick Tovani had 14 points and six assists for the Mariners (17-4, 7-0), who led 38-17 at the half.
Aptos was 12-for-19 shooting from the 3-point line and finished with 17 assists. Ryan Solorio was 4-for-6 shooting from the 3-point line for 12 points. Diego Mejia made two 3s and finished with 10 points.
Lonan Dickinson scored 12 points for the Cougars (4-15, 0-7), and Wyatt Himmelstrup added nine points.
On Tuesday at 7 p.m., Aptos hosts Soquel (10-11, 3-4) in its regular-season home finale, and SLV hosts Harbor (6-14, 1-6).
At Kirby 61, Ceiba 55 >> Senior Rain Li had a season-high 28 points and 10 rebounds in the Griffins’ PCAL Santa Lucia Division win at Enterprise Gym in Scotts Valley on Friday.
Junior Chris Lively scored 18 points for the Griffins (4-11, 3-5), and classmate Henry Annon had eight points and four rebounds. Freshman Alon Teragawa chipped in with seven points.
Senior guard Anthony Toriz scored 23 points to lead the Spartans (0-9, 0-7). Juan Jimenez-Guzman scored 20 points.

York 70, at Pajaro Valley 65 >> Senior Carlos Escobar scored 29 points, but the second-place Grizzlies suffered a narrow loss to the unbeaten Falcons in PCAL Santa Lucia Division action Friday.
Senior Anthony Aguirre scored 20 points for the Grizzlies (7-9, 6-2), who trailed 40-32 at the half.
Gianni Zeljo scored 30 points to lead the Falcons (9-4, 7-0). Dedome Demagbo scored 18 points.

Girls soccer
At Pajaro Valley 5, MVC 1 >> Senior Valeria Acosta scored five goals, giving her a Central Coast Section leading total of 40 on the season and 71 in her career, and the Grizzlies moved closer to winning their PCAL Mission Division title on Friday.
Junior Scarlet Gomez had three assists for the Grizzlies (15-1-1, 7-0-1), and juniors Daisy Garcia and Jocelyn Juarez each set up a goal.
Senior captain Ashlyn Hoffman scored on a well-placed free kick in the 39th minute for the Mustangs (4-8-3, 1-5-1), who entered the half trailing 4-1. MVC has been battling illness for much of the past two weeks.
Sophomore goalie Chloe Morrow made nine saves for the Mustangs. Freshmen goalies Kendra Rivas and Denise Magallon split time and made a combined four saves for the Grizzlies.
Pajaro Valley hosts Alisal (6-7-2, 3-3-2) on Monday at 3 p.m. MVC plays at Alisal on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m.
At St. Francis 14, Ceiba 0 >> Junior Peyton Orradre scored twice, and the Sharks’ offense exploded for a program-record 14 goal total in their PCAL Santa Lucia Division rout Friday.
Junior Miriam Abonce had one goal and three assists. Junior Natalie Gonzales and freshman Alyssandra Peterson each had a goal and two assists.
Junior Elin Cardenas Hernandez and sophomore Bella Valentina Vargas-Sanchez each had a goal and an assist.
Also scoring for the Sharks were seniors Faith Vokos and Olivia Chavez-Arce, juniors Paula Reyes, Giselle Meschi, Michaela Garcia, and sophomores Ella Dewig and Kai Ortiz.

Aptos’ defense, Love Granstrom, David Sebastian Kilpatrick, Benjamin Maciel and Lozano, helped goalie Noah Curran, who made one save, recorded the shutout.

Pajaro Valley closes its season with a pair of home matches. The Grizzlies host King City on Tuesday at 3 p.m., and crosstown rival Watsonville on Feb. 12 at 3 p.m.

Men’s basketball
At Cabrillo 85, Gavilan 80 >> Freshman guard Walzel Evans scored 24 points, and the Seahawks rallied for the win in Coast Conference South Division play Friday.
Freshman forwards Johnny Gasaloga and Dai’shaun Buie each scored 11 points for the Seahawks (13-10, 5-2), who trailed 38-32 at the half.
“Walzel Evans was unstoppable, attacking the rim all night,” Seahawks coach James Pages said. “We got some great contributions from a lot of guys after losing sophomore starter Zavier Sims to an ankle injury early in the game. … We just kept fighting, guys stayed together and found a way to get a win when Gavilan played their best game of the year.”
Gavilan made 15 3-pointers. Sophomore wing Bricen Buciak made five 3s and scored 23 points for the Rams (4-19, 1-6). Sophomore guard Kenny Harper scored 18 points, and freshman forward Myron Stamps made four 3s and scored 14 points. Sophomore forward/center Eric Villalobos made four 3s and scored 12 points.
Cabrillo plays at Monterey Peninsula (1-21, 0-6) on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

At Cabrillo 71, Gavilan 37 >> Soquel alumna Renee Parker, a sophomore, and freshman Gabby Brooks, both forwards, each scored 20 points in the Seahawks’ Coast Conference South Division win Friday.
Freshman guard Sydney Chesnut made four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points for the Seahawks (15-8, 4-2), who led 37-22 at the half. Sophomore center Lily Thayer, also out of Soquel, added 10 points.
Freshman Guin Lines, a freshman guard out of Aptos, made five 3s and scored 19 points for the Rams (2-21, 0-6). Freshman guard Isabelle Cline made four 3s and scored 14 points.
Cabrillo hosts Foothill (7-15, 1-4) on Friday at 5 p.m.

At Aptos 38, SLV 26 >> Abby Sherwood had 18 points and 10 rebounds in the Mariners’ SCCAL win Friday.
Berkeley Ashby had 15 points, seven rebounds, and four steals for the Mariners (12-9, 4-3).
On Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., Aptos hosts Soquel (5-9, 3-4), and SLV (9-11, 1-6) hosts Harbor (1-15, 0-7).
Beach volleyball
At Cabrillo 3, Lassen 2 >> The Seahawks won match Nos. 1, 3, and 5 in the nonconference win Friday.
Summer Pederson and Jordan Simpkins (21-11, 21-13), Dakotah Johnson and Becca Willemse (21-17, 21-15), and Natalia Cash and Haley De La Riva (21-10, 21-7) earned wins for the Seahawks (1-0).
At Cabrillo 5, De Anza 0 >> Summer Pederson and Jordan Simpkins (21-19, 21-11), Dakotah Johnson and Becca Willemse (21-14, 21-10), and Natalia Cash and Haley De La Riva (21-17, 21-19) all went 2-0 on Friday.
Avalon Agnelli and Sophie Hall (22-20, 21-16) and Ellie Hartman and Kaitlyn Vanderlinden (21-7, 21-14) also earned wins for Carbrillo.
The Seahawks (2-0) play another doubleheader on Friday, hosting Feather River at 10 a.m. and Sierra at noon.
