NEWTON - passed away on June 19, 2025 surrounded by his family after along battle with cancer.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place from 4-8pm on Friday, June 27 at Magni Funeral Home, 365 Watertown St, Newton, followed by a Funeral Mass on Saturday, June 28, at 10:30am in Our Lady’s Church, 573 Washington St, Newton. Bernard O’Reilly was born on Oct. 30, 1936 in Bunnoe, County Cavan Ireland. He came to Boston in 1958 and worked for over 50 years in the autobody industry and as the owner of O’Reilly’s Autobody since 1980. Bernard devoted much of his free time to the Boston Gaelic Athletic Association and the Irish Cultural Center in Canton. Bernard initially played Gaelic football with the Gaelic Athletic Association, which promoted the sport in the area. He later served the association in multiple ways, as a coach, referee, and ultimately as the honorary president, where he worked tirelessly to bring the sport of Gaelic football to the the United States. Bernard is survived by his daughter, Margaret O’Reilly Raymond of Norwood, his son, Bernard M. O’Reilly of Newton, his two grandchildren, Jennifer Harper and Dean Raymond, his great-grandchildren Logan Harper, as well as nephew, Gary O’Reilly and nieces, Una Egan and Noreen Lyons and his sister-in-law Bridie O’Reilly.
He was pre-deceased by his brothers James, Sean and Peter O’Reilly. Bernard will be remembered for his tremendous work ethic and the legacy that he leaves behind in the autobody industry and the Gaelic Athletic Association where Gaelic football thrives in the area to this day.
