Alison Lee sparked a shirtless caddie celebration by spinning a wedge into the cup for eagle. Andrea Lee holed a bunker shot to set up Rose Zhang’s walk-off eagle one hole later. And Megan Khang paused for 10 seconds to let gravity help her out on a critical birdie putt.

The wait was worth it for the United States, which maintained a four-point lead over Europe in the Solheim Cup on Saturday.

With top-ranked Nelly Korda getting an afternoon break after winning the leadoff point in three consecutive sessions of team matches, U.S. captain Stacy Lewis watched her role players excel, and the Americans concluded a warm, breezy late-summer day at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club with a 10-6 advantage.

Europe, which has captured the Solheim Cup the last three times, won the last two matches to conclude a 4-4 day. But the team in royal blue and yellow will need its largest comeback in Sunday singles to make it a record four in a row.

Kizzire opens 4-stroke lead at Silverado

Patton Kizzire overcame erratic play off the tee and a missed putt to take a four-stroke lead into the final round of the Procore Championship at Silverado.

Kizzire shot a 5-under 67 — with six birdies and a bogey — to reach 18-under 198. The 38-year-old former Auburn player is trying to end a long drought after winning his two PGA Tour titles in Mexico and Hawaii in a two-month span in late 2017 and early 2018.

David Lipsky, playing in the same group as Kizzire, was second after a 70 in the FedEx Cup Fall series opener. The first-round leader had four birdies and two bogeys.

Rahm moves to lead in LIV Chicago

Jon Rahm moved closer to two big paydays with a 6-under 64 on Saturday, giving the Spaniard a one-shot lead in LIV Golf Chicago as he moves closer to winning the season points title.

Rahm tapped in for birdie on his final hole, the par-5 third at Bolingbrook Golf Course, to lead Sergio Garcia (65) by one shot.

Rahm and Joaquin Niemann of Chile are the only players who can win the points title and the $18 million bonus. Niemann birdied his last two holes to salvage a 68 and was three shots behind Rahm going into the third and final round.

Teen Zilisch wins first Xfinity Series start

Feeling pretty good on a Saturday night, 18-year-old racing sensation Connor Zilisch became a NASCAR race winner.

Zilisch raced to victory in his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut, saving enough fuel in a wreck-marred finish to allow the teen sensation to take the first of what many in the industry expect to be a career full of checkered flags on Saturday at Watkins Glen International.

Zilisch, who turned 18 in July, spent the majority of the race leading in the No. 88 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports and was nowhere near the chaos in the back of the pack, but he was forced to stretch his fuel.

The race was red-flagged for about 20 minutes — where Zilisch killed time by radioing his team for college football scores — and the race was eventually forced into double overtime, though there was never a serious battle on the 2.45-mile road course for the lead.

San Francisco places McCaffrey on IR

The San Francisco 49ers placed All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey on injured reserve because of his lingering calf and Achilles tendon injuries.

The move made Saturday means McCaffrey will miss at least four more games after already sitting out the season opener. He is eligible to return for a Thursday night game in Seattle on Oct. 10.

McCaffrey got hurt early in training camp and missed four weeks of practice before returning to the field on a limited basis last week. He was a late scratch for the opener on Monday night against the Jets.

Packers’ Love now doubtful for Colts

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love’s status for Sunday’s game with the Indianapolis Colts has been downgraded to doubtful as he recovers from a knee injury.

Love had been listed as questionable on the injury report that came out Friday. The Packers announced Saturday he was now doubtful.

The Packers also elevated quarterback Sean Clifford from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s game. Clifford, a 2023 fifth-round pick from Penn State, is expected to back up Malik Willis on Sunday.

Saints drop fourth to Clippers on the road

The Saints fell to the Columbus Clippers 6-3, their fourth loss in a row, on Saturday in Ohio.

St. Paul started the scoring at the top of the first inning when DaShawn Keirsey Jr. grounded into a double play that scored Payton Eeles, but the Clippers matched it in the bottom of the inning and kept going. The only interruption was an RBI single by Keirsey in the third, and Diego Castillo doubled in the ninth to score Jair Camargo.

Keirsey had two hits in his return to the Saints’ lineup after a stint with the Minnesota Twins.

Travis Adams (0-1) started off pitching for the Saints, allowing seven hits and five runs, all of them earned, in his five innings.

Messi scores twice in return to Miami

Lionel Messi made a successful return after a lengthy absence, scoring two goals and assisting on the third to lead Inter Miami to a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union.

The Argentine star winger had not played with Inter Miami since June 1 because of national team commitments and a right ankle injury sustained in a victory over Colombia in the Copa America final on July 14.

Messi, who resumed practicing three weeks ago, showed no rust or ill-effects from the injury with his multigoal performance. He scored twice in a four-minute span midway through the first half that negated an early goal by Philadelphia.
