One newly elected trustee and two who were reelected were sworn in on the Pasadena Unified School District’s governing board on Monday.
The board unanimously appointed District 2 trustee Jennifer Hall Lee president, District 6 trustee Tina Fredericks vice president, and District 7 trustee Yarma Velázquez as clerk for 2025. They each will serve one calendar year.
The public also welcomed newly elected board member Scott Harden, who represents District 4, and welcomed back Hall Lee and Fredericks, who were reelected.
They were sworn in during a meeting that also included thanks to outgoing board member Patrick Cahalan, who has represented District 4 since he was elected in 2015.
The board also swore in six student board members. New student board members are Yul Hur (Blair High School), Lula Matsura (John Muir High School), Allison Leo (Pasadena High School), Adeline Wick (Blair), Germon Maxey (John Muir), and Violet Beach (Pasadena High School).
“I am honored to serve as President of the Board of Education and look forward to fostering a culture of collaboration and trust,” Hall Lee said. “Together, we can ensure that every decision we make prioritizes the success of our students, families, and staff.”
District Superintendent Elizabeth Blanco said the new-look governing board “will continue to focus on academic excellence and innovation to prepare all students for success.”
The Board reaffirmed the district’s vision, mission, and values. along with:
• Set meeting dates and times for 2025; approved the governance calendar; assigned schools to board members; appointed members to board committees; and authorized district signators.
“The steps we have taken tonight reflect our commitment to thoughtful governance and a shared vision for student success,” Hall Lee said. “The PUSD community can look forward to a year marked by strong leadership, collaboration, and an unwavering focus on the success of every learner.”
