Class 5A/4A Rocky Mountain League

Teams: Boulder, Brighton, Mountain Range, Northglenn, Prairie View, Riverdale Ridge, Westminster.

Boulder Panthers

Coach: Carlos Real

Last year’s result: Finished 8-7 and reached the first round of the 5A playoffs.

Testing 1-2-3: Senior Mia DeJohn, who is committed to San Diego State, is hoping to lead the Panthers to a potential Rocky Mountain League title and another postseason berth.

The tea: The Panthers are led by a talented midfield that includes seniors Maddy Moore, who is committed to UMass-Boston, and, of course, DeJohn, who led the team with seven goals and eight assists in 2024. They get strong play from their senior GK Maisie Creamer, who got most of the minutes in net a year ago for them. Their backline is led by senior Neva Woodson. Others to watch include senior Sylvie Rowe, junior Elle Ceres and freshmen Ane Mackey and Kiri Fogarty-Sears.

Class 5A/4A/3A Granite Peaks League

Teams: Broomfield, Centaurus, Erie, Fairview, Frederick, Holy Family, Horizon, Legacy, Mead, Monarch, Niwot, Silver Creek and Skyline.

Broomfield Eagles

Coach: Jim Davidson

Last year’s result: Finished 13-3-1, won the 5A Front Range South League and reached the second round of the 5A playoffs.

Testing 1-2-3: Davidson, the legendary coach responsible for 10 state titles for the Eagles (eight in boys soccer, two in girls), said he is retiring after the spring season. Davidson stepped aside from the boys team ahead of the 2022 season but has remained the girls coach.

The tea: Davidson has some young talent he’s high on this spring, including sophomore MF Marin Kotschau, who “clearly,” he said, is “one of the top players in the state.” She’ll captain the midfield alongside junior Lexie Hinton. Four-year starter F Victoria Choren, meanwhile, will help fuel their attack. Expected to start in net is junior GK Madison Foulke. Others to watch include D Jenna Jeffrey, Emily Adams, F Chloe Tien, Kohyn Pottorff and MF Cianna Sexton.

Centaurus Warriors

Coach: Mario Bezzina

Last year’s result: Finished 5-6-3.

Testing 1-2-3: Senior GK Catherine Keenan starts in net for the third straight season for the Warriors. Last spring, she averaged 5.2 saves per game.

The tea: The Warriors, though young, are looking to make strides after finishing below .500 last spring. They return a small group of veteran players in senior MF Anna Grace Schroer, Keenan and junior F Sophie Neale, who led the team with 18 goals in 2024. Sophomore MF Makena Ringer is back after she had three goals and two assists as a freshman. Others to watch include MF Sloane Weiss and D Isabella Kelly, both seniors.

Erie Tigers

Coach: Laura Munnelly

Last year’s result: Finished 8-6-1 and reached the first round of the 4A playoffs.

Testing 1-2-3: The Tigers will have some newness to adjust to in 2025. Alongside a first-year coach, they’re up from Class 4A to 5A as they start play in the Granite Peaks League.

The tea: The Tigers are led by D Kelsie Cox, a senior who is headed to play at Montana State University — Billings. In the middle, senior MF Bee Carey “is a calm presence,” Munnelly said. She “understands and reads the game well.” Up front is senior F Nonso Uwalaka, who the coach called a “menace” for defenses. Others to watch include MF Taylin Maynes and Elodie Kirchoffner, both sophomores, as well as junior F TaiLee Long.

Fairview Knights

Coach: Steve Griggs

Last year’s result: Finished 6-5-4 and reached the first round of the 5A playoffs.

Testing 1-2-3: Senior MF Pailynn Pine is a four-year varsity player and a two-year captain for the Knights. She’s playing at Louisiana-Lafayette next.

The tea: The Knights are balanced, touting a nice blend of veterans and newbies. Griggs said “this year we have added four freshmen to an exciting group of returning varsity players that includes six seniors.” Senior F Lucy Ochs returns after having 15 goals and seven assists in 2024. She’s accompanied by senior MF Delia Barkett, junior D Anna Hrywnak and sophomore D Quinn Holderman.

Frederick Golden Eagles

Coach: Simone Mortenson

Last year’s result: Finished 6-9.

Testing 1-2-3: The Golden Eagles have a pair of talented sisters who will look to produce in 2025 in D/MF Hayden Rickman, a junior, and F Brooklyn Rickman, a freshman.

The tea: The Golden Eagles are led by D/MF Sage Mares along with the Rickman sisters, who’ve already connected to score a goal this spring, their coach said. Overall, Mortenson said this spring is a “transition year” for the program as its roster is “very young, with only two seniors.”

Holy Family Tigers

Coach: Michelle Griego

Last year’s result: Finished 6-8-1.

Testing 1-2-3: Junior MF Makaellia Giron is back after she led the team with 12 goals and seven assists in 2024.

The tea: Giron returns alongside junior GK Wynn Wagner, who averaged 8.5 saves per match last season, and junior MF Paige Brown, who had six goals and six assists as a sophomore. The Tigers’ seventh-year coach said her roster is young but “hungry and wants to prove something this season.” Others to watch for her team include sophomores MF/D Finley Kramer and D Clara Johnson.

Legacy Lightning

Coach: Heather Solar

Last year’s result: Finished 6-5-4 and reached the first round of the 5A playoffs.

Testing 1-2-3: MF/F Makayla Martinez, who led the team with eight goals in 2024, is part of a strong senior class in 2025.

The tea: Martinez alongside D Laina Dayhuff, MF/F Kendall Hiatt, MF Addie Mercer, D Dakota Franks, MF/F Natalie Mezarina, F Haylee Pletcher and D Aubrey Lindeman make up a strong and talented senior group for the Lightning. They are joined by strong underclassmen in sophomore D Ellie Dayhuff and freshmen GK Shayne Davey and F Anaya Bursey. “We have a very talented team with a lot of depth this year,” Solar said.

Mead Mavericks

Coach: Shane Adler

Last season’s result: Finished 13-2-1 record and reached the second round of the 4A state playoffs.

Testing 1-2-3: Senior and two-time Times-Call player of the year Katy Adler returns as Mead’s top scorer with 20 goals to her name in 2024.

The tea: The Mavericks look to put together another strong season with Adler and senior Reese Ormsby at the helm, and once basketball season concludes, seniors Lexi Van Dyke, Caroline Kron, and juniors Maddie Wright and Elena Gomez will join the list of players to watch.

Monarch Coyotes

Coach: Katy Wood

Last season’s result: Finished 6-8-1.

Testing 1-2-3: Wood expects junior striker Paloma Mellish to have a strong season.

The tea: “We welcome a ton of new and young talent to the Coyote family this year to play alongside some very gifted upperclassmen,” Wood said. She believes that alongside Mellish, her seniors, W Ava Haughey, MF Sammy Olsen and MF Jane Tucker, will contribute big minutes.

Silver Creek Raptors

Coach: Rob Johnson

Last season’s result: Finished 5-8-2.

Testing 1-2-3: Senior center back Sawyer Burchill will step into the leadership role as team captain this year.

The tea: Johnson expects his ladies to improve throughout the season, noting, “Our leadership last year and this year has really changed the culture of our program.” He’ll rely on Burchill, seniors MF Paige Schleper and F Erin Stockwell, and junior MF Ava Orvis to light the path forward.

Skyline Falcons

Coach: Luis Chavez

Last season’s result: 10-5-2; reached the second round of the 4A state playoffs.

Testing 1-2-3: Senior captain Moriah Nates, who is committed to play at Cedarville University in Ohio, balances a strong GPA with her top-notch work ethic on the pitch.

The tea: Chavez described the Falcons as a “more mature squad this year, with good and fun chemistry and leadership, with the goal in mind to make the playoffs again.” He believes that Nates, seniors GK Lauren Pratt and D/MF Natalie Shaeffer, and juniors MF/F Alexa Jimenez and D/MF/F Marisol Sanchez, can help them get there.

Class 3A/2A Metropolitan League

Teams: The Academy, Colorado Academy, Denver Christian, Eagle Ridge Academy, Forge Christian, Jefferson Academy, Kent Denver, Peak to Peak, Prospect Ridge Academy, Stargate School and St. Mary’s Academy.

Jefferson Academy Jaguars

Coach: Matt Cassell

Last year’s result: Finished 17-3 and was the Class 3A runner-up.

Testing 1-2-3: The Jaguars graduated star player Gianna Gagliano, who helped lead them to the 3A finals a year ago. She had 92 goals and 41 assists in her high school career and now plays at the University of the Pacific, where she made three starts in the fall of 2024.

The tea: Senior Elsa Nygren, who is committed to South Dakota, leads the way after having 15 goals and 14 assists in 2024. Other senior leaders, per their MaxPreps roster, includes Brianna Kozlowski, who had 16 goals and six assists last spring, and Ella Pajor, who had 10 and 19. Maggie Chandler returns after she had 10 goals and eight helpers as a freshman.

Peak to Peak Pumas

Coach: Phil Mehalko

Last season’s result: Finished 4-9-1 and reached the first round of the 3A state playoffs.

Testing 1-2-3: The Pumas will pull their star talent from abroad thanks to junior German foreign exchange student Lisann Ehrhardt, who will start at midfield.

The tea: Mehalko said he expects his team to be very competitive this year behind “coaching depth, positive attitudes, the reintroduction of a JV team, and a strong freshman class.” Aside from Ehrhardt, he expects senior MF Ashlee Aragon, sophomore CB Kyler Kloss and junior CF Isla Howkins to lead the way.

Prospect Ridge Academy Miners

Coach: Jeff Vigil

Last season’s result: Finished 10-5-2 record and reached the 3A state quarterfinals.

Testing 1-2-3: Senior MF Sierra Bennett returns after scoring 17 goals as a junior.

The tea: The Miners return a solid core that Vigil believes will compete at the top of their league and in the state playoffs. Alongside Bennett, the Miners bring back seniors D/F Kayah Robbins, F/MF Maddy Skinner, D/MF Shaye Grote, MF/GK Marina Cassano and sophomore MF Sarah Sellers.

Class 3A/2A Patriot League

Teams: Fort Morgan, Frontier Academy, Liberty Common, Longmont, Sterling, Valley, Weld Central and Windsor Charter.

Longmont Trojans

Coach: Patty Pless

Last season’s result: Finished 9-7 and reached the first round of the 3A state playoffs.

Testing 1-2-3: Senior forward Ella Erwin is “feisty, fast, and loves to win,” according to Pless, who expects her to have a standout season.

The tea: The Trojans have set the early goal to win their league and surpass the first round of the postseason, and will have an experienced freshman keeper in the net with Bella Oldroyd. Pless will also look for strong gameplay from sophomore F Kylissa Kirk and junior MF Luna Ready.

Class 2A Mile High League

Teams: Belleview Christian, Bishop Machebeuf, Clear County, Dawson, Estes Park, Flatirons Academy, Front Range Christian, Gilpin County, SkyView Academy, Union Colony.

Dawson Mustangs

Coach: John Welsch

Last year’s result: Finished 11-5 and reached the 2A quarterfinals.

Testing 1-2-3: Senior F Kanoe Bihag has 102 career goals coming into the season. She scored 34 times a year ago.

The tea: Bihag will look to cap off her high school career with four seasons with more than 30 goals. But it won’t be easy. She will be without her co-star Lauren Muniz, who is now playing at Harvard. Around Bihag, though, is a strong middie in senior Maddie Abel. Others to watch include F Riley Cahill, Lily Sullivan, Evie Zaug and MF Hannah Johnson.
