WADSWORTH TOWNSHIP – The Medina Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred on County Road 97 (Greenwich Road) near the intersection of County Road 51 (Mennonite Road).
The collision occurred shortly before 11 a.m. on Jan. 17.
Robert L. King of Wadsworth, 82, was driving a 2011 Ford Taurus westbound on County Road 97, approaching Mennonite Road. A 2012 Kenworth semi-tractor trailer driven by John C. Dean of Rittman, 49, was backing out of a private drive just west of Mennonite Road with a flagger stopping traffic. King reportedly failed to stop for the flagger and struck the trailer, a 2015 Etnyre Blackhawk Lowboy.
King was transported by Wadsworth EMS to the Summa Health Wadsworth-Rittman Medical Center, then transported to Akron City Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Dean was not injured in the crash.
The Medina County Sheriff’s Office and Wadsworth Fire Department also assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
