MEDINA – Most residents of Medina County are fairly average in terms of income and age according to new data compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau.

For instance, the median age of Brunswick residents is 39.2 and the median family income is $72,523.

In Medina, the median age is 37.3 and the median family income is $72,600.

In Wadsworth, the median age is 37.9 and the median income, $73,131.

Those estimates come from new census reports on age and income for Ohio cities with populations of at least 5,000. The statistics are based on surveys done between 2011 and 2015.

Among the Ohio cities with the oldest populations are Beachwood and Seven Hills. Both cities have median ages over 50.

College towns tend to be on the younger side. For instance, Oxford, home to Miami University has a median age of 21.1.

The new Census estimates report other towns with the youngest populations to be Athens with Ohio University (21.6), Bowling Green with Bowling Green State University (22.9), Oberlin with Oberlin College (23.4) and Kent with Kent State University (23.4).

Median ages in Cleveland and Akron are also lower than those in Brunswick, Medina and Wadsworth. The median age in Cleveland is 35.9 and the median age in Akron is 36.6.

Laura Toth, director of the Medina County Office for Older Adults, expects the median age here to increase in coming years. She said 20 percent of Medina County residents will be 65 or older by the year 2020 and 24.2 percent by 2030. People 65 and older made up 13.1 percent of the population in Medina County in 2010.

The Census Bureau calculated the entire population in Medina County at 176,395 in 2015.

Median family incomes in Ohio cities range from $221,148 in the Columbus suburb of New Albany to $30,411 in East Cleveland.

After New Albany, the rest of the top five in Ohio are Indian Hill near Cincinnati ($208,158), the Cleveland suburb of Pepper Pike ($162,292) and two Columbus suburbs — Powell ($147,344) and Dublin ($139,860).

Among northeast Ohio cities, Hudson is second behind Pepper Pike at $139,764, followed by Brecksville ($124,234), Beachwood ($111,586) and Solon ($111,201).

The median family income in Cleveland is $32,455 and in Akron it is $44,304.
