Please help Brunswick Police keep our community safe

To the Editor:

Brunswick residents are extremely fortunate to have a top-notch safety force protecting their families. I know I appreciate their efforts to keep us safe.

The city has one K-9 team, which consists of Officer Mark Luciano and his partner Nico. Nico is a 70-pound Belgian Malinois who was imported from Holland. The team is certified for patrol/narcotic work by the state of Ohio. Their primary functions include: narcotic/drug detection, apprehension of fleeing criminals, tracking lost or fleeing individuals, building searches, article searches and crowd control.

Since 2014 the Luciano/Nico team has led to 228 arrests and removed 474 caches of drug and other illegal substances from the streets of Brunswick.

While this team does a fantastic a job, one K-9 unit can’t be everywhere at once. Just like his human partner, Nico can only be on duty 8 hours a day. There is a strong need for a second handler/canine team to keep the citizens of Brunswick safe and to keep drugs off our streets.

Please help the dedicated men and women of the Brunswick Division of Police keep the citizens of Brunswick safe. Your donations are tax deductible as the BCPAAA is a 501(c)3, whose mission is in part to assist and support the Brunswick Division of Police.

If you are able to support this effort, please go to the GoFundMe website and search for “K-9 team for Brunswick” or https://www.gofundme.com/k9-team-for-brunswick-pd. Thank you!
