John E. Rupp, 67, of Sterling, formerly of Jeromesville, passed away June 1, 2017, at Autumnwood Nursing Home in Rittman, just hours after celebrating his 67th birthday.

He was born May 31, 1950, in Akron to the late Ralph and Arlene (Mullet) Rupp.

John graduated from Norwayne High School in the class of 1968. In his early years, he was a milk truck driver. He then became a self-employed dairy farmer for the majority of his life, retiring in 2010. He enjoyed sports, especially watching the Browns, Indians and Buckeyes, watching westerns, listening to oldies music such as Dean Martin, rooting for the Norwayne Bobcats and Hillsdale Falcons, drinking his PBR while milking the cows, and going to the racetrack at Wheeling Downs. John was a thoughtful man who would help anyone unable to help themselves.

He is survived by his son, Gus Rupp of Loudonville; daughter, Tracy (Tyrone III) Gould of Morrisville, N.C.; granddaughter, Ashlynn Gould of N.C.; brothers, Earl (Pat) Rupp of Sterling, Ron (Peggy) Rupp of Wooster, Tom Rupp of Sterling, Bill (Sandi) Rupp of Sterling, and Jeff (Lisa) Rupp of Sterling; sister, Sue Rupp of Seville; sister-in-law, Sharon Rupp of Rittman; special friend, Liz Rayner of Wooster; former wife, Nancy Collins of Ashland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Jim Rupp.

Per John’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and private services will be held by the family.

Auble-Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman is assisting the family.
