To the Editor:
On Oct. 22, the author of “Are you one of Hillary’s deplorables? Stand with me!,” completely misconstrued Secretary Clinton’s reference to Donald Trump’s “basket of deplorables.” She referred to those of his supporters who laughed when he mimicked a physically challenged man; who were not appalled and stayed silent when he (who had never served his country) disparaged the heroism of John McCain, who spent 5 1/2 years in a POW prison in pain from untreated injuries and torture; who were not outraged when Trump criticized a Muslim Gold Star family whose son made the ultimate sacrifice for his country; who were not aghast when Trump moronically said “I love war;” who agreed when Trump vilified all Muslims and demonized Mexicans as rapists and murderers; who did not recoil in disgust when he used vulgar, misogynistic language to describe his sexual assaults on women, labeling himself “the victim;” who actually would have voted for him even if he had shot someone on 5th Avenue; who were not horrified when he encouraged Russia to continue hacking into U.S. internet/computer systems, particularly Secretary Clinton and the DNC, even though their next targets may well be our air traffic control system and/or electric power grids; who concurred when he called the corrupt, torturing and murdering Russian dictator Vladimir Putin a better leader than President Obama, etc. Those are deplorables and I certainly wouldn’t want them standing with me. Would you?
Also, exactly where did the letter writer hear that Secretary Clinton and her followers did not believe in God/country/family, did not know the words to the Pledge of Allegiance especially ‘under God,’ did not wish someone a Merry Christmas or a Happy Hanukkah, did not appreciate our men in blue, did not fly an American flag in their yards, did not stand proudly for our National Anthem, etc?
Finally, when will one of Trump’s sycophants tell him that Putin used the Russian word for “bright,” meaning colorful or flamboyant, to describe him, not the Russian word for “bright” meaning brilliant or a genius, as Trump asserts?
As an aside, Karl Rove and the Bush II White House deleted 22 million emails. Did they contain classified, top secret information? The propaganda lies about WMD and invading Iraq? Other nefarious activities? We will never know. Rove and other White House aides were found in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with subpoenas to investigate the breach of federal laws. Rove still gets apoplectic when someone brings this up, but this is first to vilify Secretary Clinton for her deleted emails.
