MEDINA TOWNSHIP – Four houses in the area of Morningsong Drive were hit with bullets, possibly coming from a high-powered rifle which could have been fired miles away.
Medina Township Police report the residences were hit over between July 15-17, with residents reporting hearing gunfire northeast of their homes in the area of Baker or Watkins roads.
One of the homes had its rear vinyl siding hit, while a second home reported seeing a hole in the area of a rear porch. Police report a bullet was recovered at one of the residences, and Police Chief Dave Arbogast said it could have come from a high-powered rifle, whose range is up to 5 miles.
Due to this, he said the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have agreed to assist with the investigation.
“That’s what they do all the time,” Arbogast said of the agency’s work. “One of our problems is there are a lot of open areas over there, the range to look for spent casings is quite broad.”
Morningsong Drive is near the intersection of Marks and Fenn roads on the western side of the township. Townships cannot prohibit the discharging of firearms with its limits, Arbogast said, but state law requires users to erect a backstop when shooting.
