Lodi Hospital offering free health classes
LODI – Cleveland Clinic Akron General Lodi Hospital will offer the below free health classes to the community.

• Navigate the supermarket: Lodi Hospital is partnering with Lodi’s Miller’s Market grocery store to provide free tours designed to make shopping for food and meal planning easier. Join Robin Waltenberger, Lodi Hospital’s registered dietitian, for a one-hour “Good Health in Store: Supermarket Tours for Diabetes and More” at Miller’s Market, 711 Wooster St., Lodi, on April 26, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. to learn how to simplify shopping and still enjoy eating. The tour provides hands-on experience with reading labels, determining portion sizes, deciding which foods are best, learning what to avoid and knowing when you can “bend the rules.” The tour is open to everyone whether or not you have diabetes – the information is also helpful for weight loss, polycystic ovarian syndrome or if you have high cholesterol, blood pressure or triglycerides. The tour is free, but call 330-948-5546 to reserve your place. Each tourist will receive a shopping guide, so don’t forget your glasses and a pen! The next session will be held on Aug. 16, same time and location.

• Schedule a breast screening: Breast surgeons will be at Lodi Hospital in Suite 103 of the Medical Office Building (behind hospital) on May 2 from 8:30 a.m.-noon offering clinical breast exams, and same-day screening mammograms on age-appropriate patients. This event is available for both uninsured and insured participants. Appointment is required. To register, call 330-948-5544.

• Quit smoking: Lodi Hospital is pleased to offer a free six-week smoking cessation class using the American Lung Association’s “Freedom From Smoking” Program. Taught by tobacco treatment specialists, the group sessions feature a step-by-step plan for quitting smoking. Each session is designed to help smokers gain control over their behavior. The format encourages participants to work on the process and problems of quitting both individually and as part of a group. The class will meet on Wednesdays, May 3-June 7, with an additional class on May 26, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the boardroom on the lower level at Lodi Hospital, 225 Elyria St., Lodi. • Learn CPR: A free “Family and Friends CPR” class will be offered on May 4 from 5-7 p.m. at Lodi Hospital in the boardroom on the lower lLevel. Learn the lifesaving skills of adult Hands-Only™ CPR, child CPR with choking, as well as infant CPR and choking. RSVP by calling 330-948-5544.

• Control your blood sugar: Want to know what to eat to control your blood sugar and lose weight? Lodi Hospital’s Sugar School will teach you in just one night. Learning quick and easy ways to control your blood sugar is the first step toward feeling better and living a longer, healthier life. Sugar School is a fun, interactive class focusing on what to eat, how to eat and the best times to check blood sugar levels. The two-hour class will be held on May 11 from 7-9 p.m. at Lodi Hospital, 225 Elyria Street, Lodi. Sugar School provides invaluable health education at only $20 per person or $30 per couple. A physician’s referral is not needed, and insurance will not be billed. Reservations are required no later than May 5 by calling 330-948-5546. The next session will be held on Aug. 10, same time and location, and reservations are required by Aug. 4.
