Maxia Louise Gruber-Dagen-Baer, 98, born Dec. 30, 1919, passed away March 24, 2017, in Medina. To her heavenly home, she has been accepted and into her Lord’s loving arms with his tender mercy, in whom she was a good and faithful servant always. Her Lord was her guide and counselor and prayer was her constant comfort.
Born in East Palestine, Ohio, to Edward and Ida Gruber, she later moved to Pennsylvania and graduated from Rochester High School in 1938. She married Ernest Dagen Jr. in 1940 and they had two daughters, Peggy and Lois.
After the passing of Ernest in 1983, she moved to Colorado and attended the Seventh Day Advent Church, where she later married her second husband, John Baer.
Maxia, in her early years, had been a practical nurse and a cosmetologist and enjoyed giving assistance to others. Her warm smile and loving nature will be missed dearly by all whom she touched. She was always welcoming any to come and share a meal with her. She loved cooking, gardening, feeding the wildlife and ministering to any stray animal and giving them attention and care. She had several pets during her years including dogs and many cats and loved them dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ernest Dagen Jr.; her second husband, John Baer; her daughter, Lois; brother, Vincent; and sister, Vivian.
She is survived by her beloved family, daughter, Peggy Fezell of Valley City; niece, Carol Dennison of North Ridgeville; grandson, Eric Jon of Kansas; step-family, the Baers of Sedalia, Colo., and adopted granddaughter, Annette Schaefer of Brunswick.
The irreplaceable, loving Maxia will be so greatly missed by those she held so dear and counseled so well, a dedicated daughter to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
As per her wishes, there will be no viewing and private entombment will occur at Sylvania Hills Mausoleum of Rochester, Pa. However, friends are invited to attend a memorial mass Saturday, April 8, 2017, at noon at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church Chapel, 929 Pearl Road, Brunswick. A gathering of friends will be welcomed by Maxia’s family after the mass at the church social hall.
In lieu of flowers, Maxia requested that you please feed the hungry and care for the animals, suggesting donations to local church food banks, to the Medina SPCA, Medina, Ohio and Battered Women Shelter, Medina, Ohio.
