West Smith reconstruction project nearly complete

MEDINA – The reconstruction of West Smith Road from State to Lake roads is nearly complete, with the road expected to be completely open by July 22 in time for the Medina County Fair.
At some points, traffic was only open to westbound traffic as crews poured concrete and did other work, including replacing a culvert near the city’s garage. The main work occurred between State Road to the east to the railroad tracks in the 800 block near the Plastipak plant.
The project started in November at a cost around $3.4 million, but City Engineer Pat Patton the city received around $1.1 million in grants, with the city paying around $2.2 million in all.
Patton said new grass and landscaping will be installed later, likely in September.
The project included the reconstruction of the concrete roadway, the widening and installation of a turn lane at West Smith and State roads and installation of new water and sewer lines.
As part of the bid award, contractor Tri-Mor Construction, of Twinsburg, was obligated to complete the project before the 2017 Medina County Fair, which begins July 31.
