Hope survives live concert

Annual Harvest Festival

The Annual Harvest Festival will take place Sept 23-24 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds of the Strongsville Historic Village, 13305 Pearl Road, and will celebrate the following activities: cow pie lottery, classic car display and parade, farm animals, old-time craft demos, children’s hands-on crafts from 1-4 p.m., quilt raffle, entertainment, food tent and farmer’s market. College funding presentation

Speaker Jacki Medvick, assistant branch manager of the Strongsville Citizens Bank, will present Fundamentals of Paying for College Monday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at Strongsville Library. Learn about the financial aid process and get an overview of the different options to pay for college. This new quarterly financial series is a collaboration with Citizens Bank and the Strongsville Branch Library. The library is located at 18700 Westwood Drive.

Opera presentation

Join Cleveland Opera Theater Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at Strongsville Library to learn about Three Penny Opera (Die Dreigroschenoper). This lecture recital will detail the historical and musical significance this milestone of 20th century opera and music theater, as it rolls on into the 21st. This presentation also features live musical examples from their upcoming production. Appropriate for both veteran opera-goers and novices alike, this is an opportunity to broaden your musical horizons.

Historical society chicken dinner

On Sunday, Oct. 1, beginning at 4:30 p.m. and ending at 6:30 p.m., the Strongsville Historical Society will sponsor an old-fashioned chicken dinner to be held at the Strongsville United Methodist Church. This is a tradition in conjunction with the Strongsville Historical Society Harvest Festival. The dinner includes chicken, sides, rolls, beverage and dessert at $10 for adults, $6 for 5-10 year olds, under 5 years are free. Caregiver Support Group

Caregivers Support Group is a group for caregivers about caregivers. Whether you are taking care of a parent, spouse, child, or friend, this group is for you. Our purpose is to provide caring and support, speakers and other resources in a peaceful and loving atmosphere. The group generally meets on the first Sunday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Strongsville United Methodist Church, 13500 Royalton Road, in room 16 unless the first Sunday is a holiday. Everyone is welcome. The current meeting dates and schedule of topics are: Oct. 1 – open discussion; Nov. 5 – speaker on funeral pre-planning; Dec. 3 – open discussion and planning for the new year. Local metal detecting club celebrates 35th club anniversary

Thirty-five years ago, a group of metal detecting friends agreed to start a metal detecting club, Buckeye Searchers Association of Northeast Ohio.The club has survived and grown and today meets the second Thursday of the month at the Ellenwood Community Center in Bedford. Members live throughout the Cleveland-Akron-Canton metro area. The club has a year-round calendar of fun and challenging events ranging from monthly meetings, several club-sponsored prize planted detecting hunts, a picnic, a Christmas party, auctions, hobby specific guest speakers, monthly finds of the month competitions, charity drives and club contests. Buckeye Searchers meetings are open to the public. Northern Ohio Railway Museum offering streetcar rides

The Northern Ohio Railway Museum is offering rides in an over 100-year-old Cleveland streetcar on the museum’s demonstration track (weather and car availability permitting). Streetcar rides will continue each month on the second Saturday of each month. Trolley ride fares are $4 for adults and teenagers 13 and older; children 6 to 12 years old are $2; and children 5 and younger are free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets may be purchased in the museum store and are good for all day riding. The rides will commence on the hour beginning at 11 a.m., with the last ride of the day occurring at 3 p.m. Check the museum’s Facebook page for weather or equipment updates. The museum is located at 5515 Buffham Road in Seville near Chippewa Lake.
