Helen Irene Streett, 93, of Medina, passed away April 14, 2017. She was born in Chatham Township on April 27, 1923 to the late Albert M. and Dorothy (Clapp) Arters.

A graduate of Bluffton College, Helen taught history, physical education and for the majority of her career special education at Medina High School. Helen was a kind, compassionate and caring person. Her home was a gathering place for many family and friends. Baking, sewing and exercising were activities that she enjoyed. She was a member of the Medina United Church of Christ Congregational and a trustee of the Friends of the Cemetery Medina.

Helen is survived by her son, John, of Medina; her daughter, Elizabeth Cassella, of Kirtland; grandchildren, Christine (Michael Bennett) Cassella of Chardon and Thomas (Caitlin) Cassella of Rochester, N.Y.; her great-granddaughter, Cora Bennett, also of Chardon; brothers, Jack Arters of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Robert (Loretta) Arters and Zeke Arters of Chatham; sisters, Mary Norton of Asheville, N.C. and Dorothy Cutler of Murray, Utah; and her sisters-in-law, Audrey Arters and Judy Arters.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, John T. Streett; son-in-law, William Cassella; brothers, Albert, Richard, William and Thomas Arters; and her sisters, Martha Arters and Elizabeth Simmons.

A private family service will be held in the Spring Grove Cemetery Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Helen’s honor to the Medina United Church of Christ Congregational, 217 E. Liberty St., Medina, OH 44256 and Friends of the Cemetery, 445 W. Liberty St., #219, Medina, OH 44256.
