WADSWORTH – For five spectacular days in June, the community is abuzz with activity during the beloved annual Blue Tip Festival.

The festival grounds at Memorial Park will include a number of attractions including carnival rides, games and a variety of festival food favorites.

All of the favorite food offerings like lemonade, Italian sausage, corn dogs, popcorn and cotton candy will be available.

Festival goers can try their hand and skills at a variety of different games and ride favorites like the Ferris Wheel, Shock Drop and bumper cars will be main attractions for fun and excitement.

Carnival attractions will take place from 6 to 11 p.m. Tuesday, June 20 through Saturday, June 24 with matinees from 1 to 5 p.m. June 21 and June 24. These matinees will include discount ride passes.

Blue Tip Committee President Mike Leavitt said one aspect that is working very well this year is the support from sponsors.

“We have restructured our sponsorship so this year we have one sponsor for each major event,” Leavitt said. “This helps us to bring in more money and really put a focus on those specific events.”

KidsLand, which is sponsored by Mosaic Northeast Ohio, will take place at the fairgrounds Wednesday, June 21 from 1 to 8 p.m.

The event will include knights, princesses, jesters, a giant castle, a smoke-breathing dragon and many more attractions.

The merchant tent will be on the festival grounds at Memorial Park and will be open Tuesday, June 20, Wednesday, June 21, Friday, June 23 and Saturday, June 24 from 6 to 10 p.m. Many of the organizations will have special demonstrations, giveaways and coupons and representatives will be available to talk give information about the organizations and what they do.

A first at the Blue Tip Festival this year is the Ultimate Youth Sports Challenge.

This new event will take place at the festival grounds Saturday, June 24 from 1 to 5 p.m. Kids 12 and under will have the chance to test their skills in baseball, softball, football, basketball, lacrosse and soccer.

Platinum sponsors include Serpentini Chevrolet Buck of Orrville sponsoring the parade; All Creatures Veterinary Clinic, sponsoring Community Day; Mosaic, sponsoring KidsLand; Summa Health Wadsworth Rittman Medical Center; sponsoring the merchant tent; Freshwater Community Church and Dietrich Family Orthodontics, sponsoring the Matchstick Race; Crystal Clinic, sponsoring the half marathon and Expert T’s sponsoring the Ultimate Youth Sports Challenge.

Gold sponsors are City of Wadsworth and J.C. Whitlam MFG Co.

As the committee is busy taking care of last minute details, Leavitt said he is hoping for good weather the week of the festival.

“Although even the years we have had rain we have still seen a very good turnout,” he said. “It averages out. If you have rain one day, you will usually make up for it the next day with a lot of people coming to the festival once the weather gets better.”
