A moment with the mayor
Wadsworth Mayor Robin Laubaugh
The Wadsworth Rotary Club is once again promoting patriotic pride by offering an opportunity for Wadsworth residents in the Wadsworth School District to lease flags for $40 per year.

For an additional $10, you may order a plaque to honor a veteran.

A Rotary member will place a 3 foot by 5 foot flag in your front yard on a pole before holiday weekends and will remove it afterward.

Holidays included are Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Patriot’s Day and Veterans Day.

The Rotary will permanently install a short PVC pipe, flush with the ground for easy placement of the flag pole and will also cap the pipe when not in use.

The flag and pole will remain the property of the Rotary Club of Wadsworth.

All proceeds will support the Rotary Club of Wadsworth’s local and international projects.

More than 100 people have already subscribed, but the club is hoping that more people will take advantage of this great opportunity. The deadline to subscribe and receive a flag for Memorial Day this year is May 15.

For more information and to print off a Parade of Flags application, please go to their website at http://www.wadsworthrotary.org.

Spring Clean-Up
A quick reminder that Spring clean-up week is scheduled this year for Monday, April 24 through Friday, April 28. It’s time to dig in and clean out.

All items must be at the street the evening before the normal trash pick-up day.

The following are excluded from pick-up: tires, appliances, motor oil, paints, any liquid wastes, furniture, computer equipment, mattresses/box springs, televisions, construction and demolition materials (including carpet and flooring) and any item weighing over 50 pounds or too bulky for one person to handle.

Keep in mind that those with Wadsworth trash service may dispose of large items by taking them to the Transfer Station where they will be charged fees based on total cubic yards.

Please remember that no after-hours dumping is permitted on city property. Questions on pick-ups may be directed to the Transfer Station at 330-335-2847.

The city’s annual yard waste pickup program is in place from April through October. Loose brush will be picked up during Spring Cleanup week, as well, with a maximum of one truckload per residence.

Any leaves and grass must be placed in bags or containers with a maximum capacity of 30 gallons; and, each container must have a yard waste sticker in order to be picked up. Stickers are available year-round for $1 each at the Utility Office in City Hall or at the Transfer Station 165 Auble Street. Giant Eagle, Buehler’s and Hometown Market also sell stickers. Please note that any container having mixed yard waste and trash will not be picked up.

Prescription Drug Take Back Day
The Wadsworth Police Department will be participating in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Outdated and unwanted prescription medicines will be collected that day.

Simply drive through the parking lot, on the back side of the City Hall and you will be met by a police officer near the police department lobby.

The program is completely confidential; no information will be asked. Please remove all prescription labels before arriving, and please, no needles or lancets. Disposing of the medicine in this way helps protect our environment and prevents the misuse or abuse of these medications.

Fire Hydrant Flushing
The Wadsworth Water Department will be conducting its annual fire hydrant flushing program during the weeks of April 24 and May 1 on several streets in the city.

A map of streets included is available on the city’s website. For those who live or work in the affected areas, the water may become discolored during the flushing program. While it is safe to drink, it is not recommended that you wash clothes in it. The water should clear up by the next day. The flushing of hydrants ensures that all of the hydrants are in good working order and also aids in maintaining water quality. Questions on the program may be directed to the City of Wadsworth Water Department at 330-335-2830.

Until next week……
