Medina Chorus welcomes people who love to sing
MEDINA – Dating back to 1935, the Medina Chorus, comprised of approximately 50 men and women from teenagers to seniors, has been delivering classical, traditional and sacred music to the community in the form of two major concerts each year, in winter and in spring. The chorus also sings before residents of the Medina County Home, the Western Reserve Masonic Community and other charitable events.

Members travel from throughout Medina County as well as surrounding communities to sing under the leadership of director Kurt Sauer, a graduate in music education from Heidelberg College. Sauer’s musical experience includes singing with the Blossom Festival and the Cleveland Orchestra choruses as well as the Blossom Festival Chamber Choir. He has appeared on stage with conductors Robert Shaw, Robert Page, Leonard Bernstein, Lorin Maazel and Eugene Ormandy, to name a few.

Liz Blanch, president of the Medina Chorus, said, “Kurt has elements and a love of music to help. He makes it fun and challenging. He shares his experiences and love of music.”

Blanch said she has sung her whole life, through schools and mixed chorale as a young adult. She said, “I wanted something beyond a church choir for the challenge and variety as well. I read about the chorus and found my place and stayed. We sing wonderful choral classics.”

After living abroad for 35 years, Martha Melter of Chippewa Lake has been with the chorus for one year. She said, “I had a lot of opportunities to sing through life and returning to the area, I was happy to find a chorus I could sing with.” Melter graduated from Midpark High School in Middleburg Heights and Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa. where she enjoyed singing choral music.
