MEDINA — Just over a month after it was announced by the Cleveland Clinic the birthing center at Medina Hospital would shut down, hospital president Dr. Tom Tulisiak announced he is stepping down and returning to clinical practice.

His resignation is effective May 1. Vicky Snyder, chief operating officer at Medina Hospital, will serve as interim president while a search is conducted.

“We’d like to thank Tom for his work and dedication to our patients, caregivers and the surrounding communities,” said J. Stephen Jones, M.D., president of Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospitals and Family Health Centers in a statement. “Tom has led Medina Hospital since nearly the beginning of its integration with Cleveland Clinic. Over the last six years, the hospital has become financially strong, expanded cardiology services, added pediatric subspecialties and a comprehensive wound center, and has seen a significant increase in quality and patient satisfaction. We appreciate the leadership Tom has provided, and we look forward to having him remain on the Medina Hospital medical staff.”

Dr. Tulisiak, a board-certified family medicine physician, has been on the medical staff of Medina Hospital since 1983. Before becoming president of Medina Hospital in 2011, he served as medical director of the Cleveland Clinic Brunswick Family Health Center and vice president of medical operations at Medina Hospital. Dr. Tulisiak will return to clinical practice within the Cleveland Clinic Medicine Institute, and will see patients at the Medina Hospital Medical Office Building.

“It has been a privilege and honor serving the Medina community as president of Medina Hospital. Our caregivers are outstanding. Through their dedication they provide the highest level of quality care and patient safety while providing a great patient experience. I am proud to be considered one of their fellow caregivers,” said Dr. Tulisiak. “After six years as hospital president and recently becoming a new grandparent, I have decided to spend more time with my family. Nevertheless, I will continue to serve the Medina community and return to clinical practice. I am confident of Cleveland Clinic’s commitment to Medina Hospital, the Medina community and region, and that Medina Hospital remains a vital strategic asset of our organization.”
