MEDINA — When it comes to planning an interior remodel, most homeowners learn rather quickly that being able to make their vision a reality is one of the most difficult parts of the overall design process.
With a seemingly endless number of choices available on the market today, even the simplest decisions — such as what color granite countertop best accentuates honey maple kitchen cabinets – can be overwhelming.
To help make renovation decisions less ominous and the results even more fabulous, the owners of National Carpet Mill Outlet and National Granite Luxuries have created National Design Mart, an all-new, one-stop inspiration destination for home design enthusiasts scheduled to open its doors to the public later this spring.
“This isn’t just a place where people can come and buy the products they need,” said company president Ryan King. “This is a place where our customers will be able to come in, spend the day and find all the latest industry trends to help them better visualize what they can do with their homes.”
Located at 2255 Medina Road in Medina, National Design Mart will offer its customers a sprawling 150,000-square-foot showroom on a 15-acre site, featuring all the products and services National Carpet Mill Outlet has offered at its Lafayette Road location for the past 20 years. With a headquarters that is nearly four times the size of its existing location on the western end of Medina, the company will be able to feature all of the carpet, tile, hardwood, sheet vinyl, quartz and Formica, granite and quartz countertops and all of the home improvement, design and installation services the company currently offers while featuring the products and services of its sister company, National Granite Luxuries, under the same roof.
“There has always been somewhat of a disconnect with our customers not realizing that National Carpet and National Granite Luxuries are under the same ownership,” King said. “For that reason, and so many others, National Design Mart will offer our customers a better experience and provide them with more of a one-stop shop.”
The new location on state Route 18, King said, will feature an indoor granite and quartz slab yard with an attached fabrication facility that is three times the size of the company’s existing slab yard. Whereas the current location allows the company to have 800 slabs of granite on hand at all times, he said the new location will allow the company to quadruple that amount with approximately 3,000 slabs on hand all times.
By purchasing large volumes, National Carpet is able to obtain a savings on inventory and passes those savings onto its customers.
“We really try hard to push that savings and value on to our customers,” King said. “With our larger store we will be able to do that even more. Now, we have 65 to 70 colors of granite to choose from, but we should be able to triple that at the new location.”
The showroom will also feature three fully functional kitchens, where National Design Mart plans to host future cooking classes. In addition, King said, the new location will feature 12 model kitchens, dozens of bathroom vignettes and laundry room scenes that feature a variety of cabinets, countertops and flooring to help customers visualize the features they’d like to see in their own homes.
Additionally, King said, National Design Mart will also feature an expanded 50,000-square-foot flooring center, 10 tile shower demonstration setups, and full-room scenes, from living rooms, dining rooms, bathrooms, bedrooms and game rooms complete with furniture and other accessories.
“These full setups of rooms will help our customers visualize just what they can do in the spaces they have in their own homes,” King said.
Along with the displays, the showroom will also feature a café, where customers can grab quick refreshments during their visit, as well as a childcare area that allows parents a place for their children to play while they consider their options.
King said the move will also require a larger staff, starting with its in-house design department. He said the company plans to hire an additional six to 10 designers to work with its customers to design their dream spaces.
“We want to make sure we have designers available on the floor at all times in order to make this an easier and better buying experience all the way around for our customers,” King said.
Until National Design Mart opens in early June, the location on Lafayette Road is open seven days a week: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
