To the Editor:
I have been a strong supporter of recycling since it first became popular in the 1970s. That’s almost 40 years!
Like many other Wadsworth Township and city residents, I was dismayed when the curbside recycling contracted by the city was discontinued as part of our trash collection.
Two-thirds of my waste each week is recyclable. Therefore, I have been hauling off most of my waste to the recycle bin. My retired husband and I have done this in all kinds of weather, and regardless of inconvenience. I don’t appreciate the fact that I am doing all the work and still pay the same amount for trash collection!
You ask how to improve the recycle rate of the residents. The willingness to recycle is obvious by the overflowing bins! If we really care about participation in the recycle program, we should make it easier, not harder for people. If a die-hard like myself is fed up and stops recycling, I wonder how many others will soon be doing likewise?
I wonder what kind of a recycle system the city of Barberton has. For years, its residents have been given separate bins for curbside pick-up – and at a very reasonable charge.
