Up, down and all around town

Hello Wadsworth. Happy Earth Day. In honor of the holiday I asked Street Talk participants what they think people should do to be more eco-friendly.

Many of their responses offered a simple solution – don’t litter and pick up trash when you come across it. I think these are great ideas. It doesn’t cost anything and it’s something pretty much anyone can do.

Anyone interested in teaming up with others to pick up trash will have that opportunity Saturday, April 29 when the folks from Friends of Wadsworth Trails gather at Durling Park to pick up trash. This group plans a cleanup at one of the city’s parks each spring.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon and anyone is welcome to join them. Participants are asked to bring gloves, but trash bags will be provided.

Personally I am trying to eliminate bottled water in an effort to cut down on waste.

Another great option is recycling. I must admit I have not been great about doing this, but my goal is to make a more concerted effort to recycle as much as I can.

There are several recycling bins located around the city including the Transfer Station, 165 Auble St.; Weatherstone Park, Reimer Road; the Charles R. Parsons Administration Building, 524 Broad St.; Franklin Elementary School, 200 Takacs Drive; and Friedt Park off Leatherman Road.

A wide variety of recyclables can be placed inside the bins including plastic bottles and jugs, metals, paper and cardboard, glass and cartons. These materials should be placed in the bins loose and not in bags. For a complete list of accepted recyclables, log on to http://www.wadsworthcity.com/the-city/departments/utilities/recycling.html.

Now let’s take a look around town.
