A moment with the mayor
Wadsworth Mayor Robin Laubaugh
The city’s mass notification system provider has changed from Everbridge to the Wireless Emergency Notification System.

If you, or others you know have previously signed up for the Everbridge Mass Notification System and are presently receiving alerts, you are automatically enrolled in the new system.

If you have never enrolled or if your contact information has changed, Safety Director Matt Hiscock encourages you to take the time now to visit the WENS public registration page at:

https://entry.inspironlogistics.com/medina_oh/wens.cfm and register within the WENS system to ensure the most up-to-date and accurate contact information is stored in the WENS system.

Please encourage all residents, friends and families within Wadsworth and Wadsworth Township to take the time to register to receive mass notification messaging from the WENS system by signing up if they haven’t already.

The system’s notification effectiveness is directly impacted and dependent upon the number of individuals and entities that sign up and provide accurate contact info, though technology is never 100 percent.

The WENS system is a partnership with the Medina County Emergency Management Agency and other participating communities within Medina County.

If you have any questions about the new WENS system, please contact Mr. Hiscock at 330-335-2709.

Blue Tip Parade and Festival

The Blue Tip Festival is just around the corner and will begin Tuesday, June 20 with the well-known Blue Tip Parade kick off at 6 p.m.

Once again, chairs and blankets will be lining Broad Street in anticipation of the parade. Lighting the match this year to kick off the Parade are the grand marshals, local residents Gene Kovack and Joe Gabrosek, hosts of the nationally-known WCTV show, Polka Time Again. They have been producing their weekly show for more than 23 years — nearly 1,200 episodes!

It is the longest running series show on local access television in the United States. I’m also looking forward to the Blue Tip Festival at Memorial Park and the Matchstick Race, where runners have a choice of participating in a 5 or 10k race, or half marathon that ends at Art Wright Stadium. Wadsworth Community Radio, 97.1, will be broadcasting during the Matchstick races on Friday June 23, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Art Wright Stadium with live interviews and race coverage. Awards will be given for the top three finishers in each age bracket. Racers may still register on race day with the exception of the half marathon, but online registration is preferred. Several hundred runners are expected to participate in the race, making it a sizable event.

Due to parking limitations, runners are encouraged to park at the downtown municipal lots along King Street, where a shuttle bus will be provided to and from the stadium.

Until next week …
