Martin Warchola appointed as Lafayette trustee
Six people applied for the vacant position
LAFAYETTE TWP. – Marty Warchola was chosen out of a pool of six applicants to serve as Lafayette Township Trustee after interviewing the candidates during a March 20 meeting.

Warchola was sworn in later in the meeting and must run for office in November if he wishes to maintain his seat, which he said he intends to during an interview March 21.

The appointment was necessary after the death of Bryon Macron, whose body was found in Chippewa Lake Feb. 21.

In a statement, Trustees Lynda Bowers and Michael Costello said state law required them to choose a new trustee within 30 days after Macron’s recorded date of death.

“Under the circumstances, advertising for applicants and appointing a trustee on this timeline seems insensitive; however, it is what the Ohio Revised Code requires us to do. We had no choice in the timing or method ... It was a very hard decision. The people we interviewed included good friends, neighbors and people we serve with on other boards – all people we respect,” the statement said.

Warchola, who is serving in elected office for the first time, said he has lived in the township for 29 years and will be the only trustee who resides in the Cloverleaf School District. An engineer by training, he is employed as the vice president for engineering for Myers Snowplow.

“I wanted to put myself in a position where I can do the most help,” he said, adding he had been considering running for a trustee post for a long time.

Along with his position at Myers, Warchola operates rescue organization North Central Ohio K-9 Search and Rescue, which uses a team of 30 dogs to search for missing people. He also holds demonstrations and canine first aid classes for the Medina County Parks District.
