To the Editor:
This past January, after a fall, I entered Elmcroft of Medina, an assisted living facility, and spent three weeks there. While I was there, my daughter-in-law, Dawn, took my Christmas tree down. She placed all the ornaments in a fairly large box, and put the box in my garage, on a table there. I saw them there when I returned home, but did not immediately put them into their own boxes. Most of them are very special and I store them in their own original boxes, which are labeled with where they came from, who gave them to me, etc.
Soon after I returned home from Elmcroft someone entered my open garage door, which is usually and often open all day, and took the whole box of ornaments. I called the Lodi Police Department and they sent a policewoman to my home. After telling her my story, she asked if I had an inventory of the stolen ornaments, to which I replied I did, as each had their own box, plus miscellaneous ornaments kept in larger boxes. I wrote the name of each ornament box down, and there are 39 empty boxes listed on that paper plus a larger box for miscellaneous ornaments. She came to pick up the list the next day.
The report in the local paper of police calls made by a Lodi policeman, did not mention the call made to my house so it never made the news. Perhaps someone has some information of the person, or persons, who entered my garage and took the box of treasured ornaments. If that is you, who is reading this letter, would you please contact the Lodi Police Department with anything you may know of my loss? I will be forever grateful to you if the ornaments return to me in some way.
My garage door is usually open during the day when I am here, but I will remember to check to see if the door is closed at night. My neighbor, Larry, told me that one night the door was open all night – he walks up and down the street and he saw it open. Perhaps that was the night someone came into the garage and took my box full of beautiful ornaments that I would very much love to see again. There will be no tree in the corner of my living room this Christmastime. Thanks to anyone helping me locate my box of ornaments!
