Respect President Trump? Not going to happen.

To the Editor:
If we had witnessed in any other country the swearing in of a racist, misogynistic, bigoted, odious and vulgar president who lost the election by nearly three million votes, we would have thought it a travesty of a third-world or communist country, or a rigged political system, or even a surreal sci-fi TV episode.

President Trump’s followers tell the rest of us to “get over it.” We are over it. We know Hillary Clinton was the American people’s choice (by three million votes!) and Trump was Russian President Putin’s choice, with Trump inexplicably admiring, praising and defending the corrupt, torturing and murdering dictator.

In the Cold War era of the last century, the term “Commie lover” would be appropriate. Obviously, Putin was more intimidated by Sec. Clinton’s puissance, intelligence and ovaries than by Trump’s bluster, petulant “@DJT I’m a nitwit” Tweets and cojones.

Is Trump protecting his own personal wealth and Russian business ties to the detriment of the U.S.? We don’t know exactly what he is hiding because he still refuses to release any of his tax returns, much less the traditional 15-20 years worth. Trump followers must be so proud.

A Jan. 14 letter writer actually believed Trump’s bogus and idiotic “birther” campaign against President Obama and over the years has disrespectfully called him everything from a “dick-tator” to “Barry Soetoro” (an innuendo so ludicrous even Fox News ignored it). Now, he asks that we respect a man in the office of president who disparaged, mocked, humiliated, threatened, slandered, vilified, demonized and denigrated a wide spectrum of humanity; who stiffed business partners, shareholders, vendors and employees; who as president already lied in his inaugural speech, lied about the size of the inaugural crowd; lied about massive voter fraud; lied about not repeatedly criticizing the intelligence community; who repeatedly called women “a piece of ass;” and bragged about deliberately entering naked pageant contestants’ dressing rooms or grabbing women’s genitals.

I recognize all of that as vile, obscene and lacking human decency. Trump followers must be so proud. Respect Trump? Not. Going. To. Happen.
