PENINSULA – During the inaugural, one-night, 2017 Stake July 20-21 at Boy Scout Camp Manatoc/Butler, the Akron Stake sent 15 11-year-olds. Four of the boys, all deacon age, were patrol leaders. They taught the other boys the following skills: lashing and knots, first aid and compass work. Participants engaged in activities including camping, cooking, swimming, canoeing, a compass course, rifle shooting and archery. Many of the boys were able to complete their requirements for Tenderfoot, second class and first class. After the traditional skits and camp songs, Sister Burgoon, the stake primary president, Brother Neilson, chairman, and President Laughbaugh shared some words of wisdom, bringing the overnight to close.
