Ohio Decoy Collectors and Carvers Wildlife Art Show and Sale set for March 11-12

Hunters, fishermen, collectors and wildlife carvers can get a jump on spring by attending the 40th anniversary Ohio Decoy Collectors and Carvers Wildlife Art Show and Sale.

The show is Saturday, March 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m; and Sunday, March 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, 15471 Royalton Rd., Strongsville.

“Forty years ago, Strongsville resident and community supporter Bill Green brought together a small group of guys who loved to collect and carve decoys. Last year, over 1,000 people from throughout Ohio, the United States and Canada attended our show,” said Robert Lund, president of the non-profit organization.

Visitors will find room-to room sales, exhibits, vendors, a vintage decoy contest and a Saturday-night auction known for fresh-to-market finds. Northwest Ohioan carver and wildlife artist Sonny Bashore will be honored at the Saturday night Living Legends presentation, along with a display of his work.

The show also holds 22 carving and painting competitions with nearly $6,000 in prize money. Participants of all ages, beginners to professionals enter their hand-made duck decoys, fish decoys, shorebirds, owls, hawks and marsh critters. Over 900 entries were on display at the 2016 show. Families can view the Ohio Junior Duck Stamp competition, workshops and carving demonstrations. Ohio native and wildlife artist Adam Grimm, two-time winner of the Federal Duck Stamp competition and featured in the Animal Planet’s “Million Dollar Duck” documentary, will be on hand and exhibiting his art for sale along with other artists.

Weekend admission is $5 and includes the show button designed by Adam Grimm. Children under 17 and ODCCA members are free. For more information, visit www.odcca.net or contact Mr. Lund woodcountydecoy@msn.com.
