Gymnasts impress at regional championship

PEORIA, ILL. – The gymnasts from Medina Gymnastics Academy travelled to Peoria, Ill., to compete in the Region 5 Xcel Championships.

Competing at Xcel Silver, Camille Christeon earned a spot on Team Ohio A and placed first on bars, Aubrey Terrell finished second on bars, and Anna Strzalka placed fourth on beam and floor.

The Xcel Gold gymnasts included Rebecca Taylor, who earned a spot on Team Ohio A and finished sixth on beam, fifth all around, and fourth on floor; Grace Nelson earned a spot on Team Ohio B and was the vault champion; Sophie Akers-Novak placed ninth on vault, fifth on floor and all around, and third on bars; Gwenneth Asher finished seventh all around and second on beam; Courtney Bland placed sixth on floor; Morgan Rudert finished fifth on beam and second on floor; Gabriella Bohmer placed fourth on beam; and Emma Myers finished ninth on vault and floor.

Competing at Xcel Platinum, Makenzie Kerr earned a spot on Team Ohio B and placed ninth on vault, eighth on floor, and seventh on beam and all around.

Katie Strzalka also earned a score at state that qualified her to compete at the regional championships.
